Letters from Christopher: The Tragic Confessions of the Watts Family Murders
Letters from Christopher: The Tragic Confessions of the Watts Family Murders | Cheryln Cadle
4 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
In the early morning hours of August 13, 2018, in the small, quiet Colorado town of Frederick, after murdering his family, Chris Watts calculatingly and coldly put his girls in oil battery tanks and buried his pregnant wife in a shallow grave, then returned to work like nothing happened. Chris ultimately pled guilty to the murders, and he is currently serving multiple life sentences. While in prison, Chris receives tons of mail--from family and friends but also fans. Author Cheryln Cadle decided that, after a calling from God, she would write to Chris and ask him if she could write a book about his story. Surprisingly, he wrote back. After a few back-and-forth letters, Chris sent the paperwork to Cheryln to be put on the visitors' list. She then visited him and they talked about her writing a book. After visiting him, he told Cheryln he wanted to tell her his confessions in writing because he felt their conversations were being recorded. He has revealed things to her that no one else knows, not even the FBI. Some of these details will be completely shocking for you to hear. Letters from Christopher is a true crime story with important information to put the pieces of the puzzle together for inquiring minds. Read herein the completely truthful account of what happened to Shanann, Bella, Celeste, and Nico Watts. About the Author New and upcoming author Cheryln Cadle lives in the Midwest with her husband of 47 years, three children and their spouses, and eleven grandchildren. She loves to write, play golf, camp, and travel. Her most favorite pastime is spending time with her grandchildren. She loves true crime stories.

My only motive behind reading this book was to have more insight about the case but this book had nothing extra to offer, it felt like I was re-reading an article. Apart from stating 3-4 unknown things about him, everything was repetitive.

I was disappointed in this text. The author is very long-winded and prone to stating things with no source, and she also plagiarized passages from Anne K. Howard‘s His Garden, which is problematic. It‘s not really worth reading.

Mehso-so

Being fanatical about this case, I‘m glad I read this book. It‘s fascinating to see Chris‘s own words as to why he slaughtered his own family. That said, there are some major issues here—

The author can‘t write for shit.

There was apparently no editor. Cervi 319 was frequently referenced as Cervi 219, Niko was just as consistently spelled Nico, and the Rzucek‘s last name was misspelled EVERY time.

There‘s really nothing new. ⬇️

Reviewsbylola If, like me, you‘ve read all the discovery in the case, there‘s nothing new here except Chris‘s own words. Yes, he does offer a new confession, however it doesn‘t vary too greatly from what he told FBI agents in February 2019. The author often times just slid huge chunks of discovery into the book, including texts between Shanann and friends, as well as an entire verbatim interview with Chris. 5y
Reviewsbylola Lastly, there are huge chunks of vital information from discovery that the author chose not to include. I have no idea what the rhyme or reason was behind what she chose to incorporate into the book and what she left out. She mentions the 2/2019 FBI interview multiple times as far as Chris saying how mad he was that agents showed up without giving him any warning, but that‘s the extent of it. She doesn‘t include what he actually said. 5y
Ruthiella Wow! You are pretty knowledgeable about the case! 5y

LeahBergen I had previously read an Amazon review that said the writing was shite. 💩 I guess they were correct! 😆😆 5y
Reviewsbylola Yes, it‘s awful. I‘m hoping we‘ll eventually get a well written book on the case. @LeahBergen 5y
Bklover Well damn. You and I have already read loads of the discovery. And pretty much everything else written on the subject. Sounds like you and I could have written this book together! Why didn‘t we think of that?!!! (edited) 5y
Reviewsbylola I may have to consider it if a better book about the case isn‘t written ASAP! @Bklover 5y
Mdargusch So odd that it‘s even edited badly. 5y
Kkecreads I am so glad someone else agrees that the author of this book is a complete joke. Not to mention she plagiarized a lot of her book from Anne K Howard‘s His Garden. Yuck! 4y

I may be the only person dumb enough to buy this book. Last time I checked, it was only available straight through the publisher. So I paid full price and shipping. 🤦🏼‍♀️

@Bklover have you seen this?!

LeahBergen I was just watching a bit of an interview with the author on YouTube. I‘ll be interested to hear if you think it‘s any good! 5y
Reviewsbylola I‘ll probably put aside my current book and read it today. Something about the Watts case has completely sucked me in. I think it‘s fascinating and horrifying that he gives another method of killing in this book. I had always been suspicious of the idea that the kids were killed at the oil tanks so his new “confession” makes more sense to me. @LeahBergen 5y
Cathythoughts I missed this Murder ..... will be interested to hear your thoughts... I find some of these books horrifying & fascinating too 5y

LeahBergen I just saw a blurb about “I killed my girls twice” or something?? I became sucked in by this case after watching that long bit of initial cop cam footage when he first reports his wife missing. 😮 5y
Reviewsbylola Yes, he‘s saying now he smothered them at home but apparently they didn‘t actually die, so when he was killing Shanann, they woke up. He clearly planned the murders in advance (which I think is in this book, that he admitted that), so it‘s never made sense to me that he drove them out to the site alive. @LeahBergen 5y
Reviewsbylola I first noticed the case when they were still missing and Watts went on tv and begged for their return. I remember thinking that he was acting very strange, and from that point I was hooked. @LeahBergen 5y
LeahBergen Really?? Okay, I‘m now eagerly awaiting your review! 😮 5y
Bklover Omg I MUST READ THIS!!!!! 5y
CoffeeK8 @LeahBergen @Reviewsbylola The Crime junky podcast does a great episode on this case... https://crimejunkiepodcast.com/murdered-the-watts-family/ (edited) 5y
