10 posts | 22 read | 14 to read
Susanna desperately wants to join the circle of girls who meet every week at the parsonage. What she doesn't realize is that the girls are about to set off a torrent of false accusations leading to the imprisonment and execution of countless innocent people. Susanna faces a painful choice. Should she keep quiet and let the witch-hunt panic continue, or should she "break charity" with the group--and risk having her own family members named as witches?Reader's guide included.

🎃🎃🎃 1/2. A ya historical fictional account of the 1692 Salem Witch Trials. I‘m pretty familiar with the history so there was nothing revelatory but this was still an engaging account. Rinaldi is sometimes a hit or miss with me but her history is always on point.

TheSpineView Great job! 🖤🧙‍♀️ 3y
megnews I really love Rinaldi‘s HF. 3y

mrp27 @megnews Me too. My favorite is the one she did on poet Phyllis Wheatley, not sure I got the spelling correct. 3y
mrp27 @TheBookHippie it‘s a graphic novel but an interesting follow up to this. It follows the life of Ann Putnam in the years after the witch hysteria. 3y
megnews @mrp27 I have read the Wheatley one. Very good. I‘ve also read 3y
TheBookHippie @mrp27 I like that one as well the Phyllis Wheatley one . (Not sure I spelled it correctly either.) 3y
TheBookHippie @mrp27 love a graphic novel! Adding it to my list! Thanks ! 3y

Loved this book. I think this is the first one of her books I read. And it was good.

While fictional, this book offers a wonderful view into a turbulent time in Massachusetts history: the Salem Witch Trail. Told by the point of view of a girl around the same age as the girls “afflicted” by witchcraft, she knows the truth behind the false claims and struggles between revealing the truth and having her own family named as witches and hung or keeping silent and protecting those she loves.

While visiting #Boston, I will be taking a trip through to #Salem for my wild card trip... I want to pay homage to the innocents who lost their lives during the trials.

Avanders Also, Salem is one of my favorite cities in this country! Enjoy your trip!! 💙 (or.... is this a reading trip? 😬) 6y
vkois88 @avanders sadly, this is only a reading trip for the moment. I plan on trying to get to Salem for real within the next few years though!! It's always been a place I've wanted to see 6y
Avanders @vkois88 me too! and we finally went a couple years ago.. I loved it 🤗 6y

Craftylikefox Salem is so great!!! I go down at least once a year. It is worth checking out ☺️ 6y
vkois88 @Craftylikefox ahhhhh!!! I wish I lived closer so I could do that... it would be perfect 😍😍 of course, whenever I get there, it will be during fall!! 6y
Craftylikefox Definitely! Fair warning If you want to stay in Salem in October the hotels usually book up almost a year in advance. I am lucky that where I live in Maine it‘s not a bad drive, for a day trip. 6y
vkois88 @craftylikefox I'll keep it in mind! It's probably a couple years off anyway, so I can save up and LO can really walk/run around! 🤗🤗 6y
vkois88 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I've been holding onto it for late September/October. I love Ann Rinaldi and somehow missed this one before! 6y
Craftylikefox I bet she will love it! 6y
vkois88 @craftylikefox I think so... my little witchy baby ❤❤❤ 6y
