Murder in the Corn Maze
Murder in the Corn Maze | G. A. McKevett
5 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
The roots of the Moonlight Magnolia Detective Agency reach back to the 1980s in the little town of McGill, Georgiawhere Stella Reid and her seven grandkids enjoy some spooky Halloween fun and stumble into murder . . . It doesnt take cash, just some good old-fashioned creativity, to turn a pillowcase into a ghost costume or a trashcan into a suit of armor. So even if she has to stick to a budget, Stella Reid always makes holidays like Halloween memorable for twelve-year-old Savannah and the rest of her grandchildren. After joining the other townspeople for trick-or-treating and the annual parade down Main Street, Granny Reid and the kids head to Judge Pattersons antebellum mansion, where a corn maze awaits. Most of the youngsters are too terrified to make it all the way to the middle. Its lucky for them, because when Savannah and Granny get there, it proves to be even scarier than they expectedhalf buried in the mud at the center of the maze lies a human skull. The grisly discovery uncovers a mystery that stretches back decadesand seems to be related to the long-unsolved murder of Granny Reids own part-Cherokee mother. After all this time, the culprit may be long gone . . . or still hiding among them. Itll be up to Granny to dig into this Southern towns history and a mess of old family secrets . . .

Mehso-so

This is a wholesome cozy about a Grandma who stumbles onto a decades old murder mystery & gets embroiled in the investigation because she & the sheriff are sweet on each other. It‘s set in a poor rural part of the South, but I couldn‘t decide what year it was supposed to be set in. I gave it a so-so because for a book published in 2019 it has a surprising amount of casual racism which took me out of the story & detracted from my overall enjoyment.

“Who thought a shaggy ol‘ brown rug could change a nice little boy into a snarlin‘, spittin‘-mad grizzly bear?”

Pickpick

We've all fallen in love with Savannah Reed and her corky family including glimpses of her big-hearted, sharp witted, take no nonsense granny! Now in this new series we get to know Granny Reid and her kids as they came to live with her. Their past and Granny's past come to light. GA McKwvett has woven a creative background with interesting stories that read well on their own but also tying nicely to the Savannah series 😁
