pickAs always I enjoyed the Anita Blake book. For some reason I always love reading more from this world, I love the characters and wish they were real. The language used throughout the series improves but still is on the simple side which would make me put down other books but I don't it mind here. Sometimes the characters can be stubborn and irritating but it belongs to the series. As they develop and grow older, some of their bad traits disappear.
pickNarcissus in Chains wraps up a bunch of story lines from previous books. The drama with Narcissus frames all of wrap up of things going on in Anita‘s life and it is kind of incidental. I enjoyed this, and I could stop reading the series here, honestly. I won‘t, of course 😉
Language change is so neat. We see were now and we think, “oh, shape shifter, werewolf, werelion, wereweasel, great.” So, we understand that a panwere would be someone who could shift into multiple animals. But, were- is related to words like virile. It‘s the man part of the word...or it was before it became the part of the word that marked shifter 😉
“That‘s unusual in a woman. Most of them can‘t stand the thought of silence. They talk and talk and talk.” I don‘t know why I‘d expect the villain to not be a total misogynist. I suppose there really isn‘t a ceiling on how gross and terrible a person you can be. But, still, I find myself surprised.
“All these months I‘d been worried I‘d fail the wereleopards. I thought failure meant them dying, or getting hurt. What I realized suddenly was that the true failure would have been if I hadn‘t given a damn. You can bandage a wound, set a broken bone, but not caring...you can‘t cure that, and you can‘t recover from it.” Wow. Now, that‘s a good growth arc across this series.

The cat was comfortable, so I started a new book instead of moving him to get one of the books I‘m already reading
pick“Sometimes the greatest wounds are the ones we try the hardest not to inflict.” 🗡🗡🗡🗡 Book #10 of series. It‘s hit the full crazy sauce & I can see why people were turned off but Anita is a bad ass & I love most of the characters. Richard is annoying so I‘m glad Anita finally seems to be done with that romantic relationship. I liked how Nathaniel is starting to develop into more of his own person.
April 9: #AprilInBooks— 9th book on the shelf (it‘s actually no. 10 in the series 😜)

pickThis, folks, is what we call a whopper of a book.
Even after reading this book for the third time, it still packs quite the punch. So much happens in this one. Everything happens. Everything changes.
One of the things I like most about Anita Blake is her consistency as a character. It's also something I find completely infuriating but that's half the fun. Jean-Claude is still fabulous and treacherous. There's just a lot more 'whoa' in this one.
Today I get to enjoy my first snow day as an adult (one of the side perks to being a school librarian). I'm spending it curled up on the couch with coffee and a book. This is my kind of Monday! (Also, this book is hot enough to melt the foot of snow we got yesterday, hence why I'm reading inside haha)

Bilingual typos are the best. (She wound up saying "crates/boxes" instead of "balls".)
Met one of my favorite authors a while back! Up to date on the whole series but this was one of my favorites.
