Crow Planet is an incredible reminder that humanity exists within the world alongside the wilderness rather than separate from it. A very interesting read that provides a realistic outlook on the state of nature around us.

This was more memoir than I wanted. I don't doubt the author's experiences or the impact of mental health problems, but I wasn't aware that this was how the information about crows was packaged in this book. I did not finish, got to chapter 6. Two stars because the info on crows that was available is good.

First book I read from my Christmas haul, I was not disappointed! I came for the corvids and stayed for Haupt's insight into the urban wilderness, which she teaches is no less "nature" than a national park, but one with different rules. This book is a good way to mourn what the world is losing in its ecosystems while encouraging you not to give up. TW: occasional non-graphic descriptions of harm to animals.

Kristin_Reads I found this one so interesting! Crows intrigue and make me nervous at the same time. 2y
SammyKat It's fascinating! I don't know if crows ever made me nervous, but I always thought ravens were the better bird. I have a new respect for crows now! 2y

#tarottakeover Day 3: The Empress Card: creativity, fertility, abundance, embracing the natural, & experiencing the senses. My first choice was Braiding Sweetgrass, which is the best choice for this card but I do go on and on about that book (read it) so I‘m offering this one. A delightful memoir about writing, being a mother in a city, and a naturalist, this book left me wanting more regarding birds but gave much in urban nature observation. 💗

Reading a book by a fellow Seattle resident about the presence required to become a naturalist in our urban landscape transformed the way I look at the streets I walk. There is so much to see if our senses are attuned. Crows are fascinating, intelligent creatures, deserving of our respect. What better place to start our observations than here, asks the author?
