This was a really engaging, enthralling read, even without quotation marks! I really enjoyed this book and how it delved into midwifery and abortion. I also enjoyed figuring out the blanked out swear words 😂 it was partly based on a real life woman which I thought was great. 5 star

This is a really good book! I only have a section left, so should easily finish it tomorrow....probably before we even do Thanksgiving.
I'd recommend it!
Just realized this book doesn't have quotation marks and it's kinda bothersome.

Has anyone read? My mom just finished it and enjoyed it
And well they might, indeed. 😱
I think I already posted this #bookhaul when I got it in the mail a few months ago, but this is my final #christmashaul. I waited until Christmas to open it. 😍😍 Now I need my kids to go to bed so I can read. ✌🏻#bookishchristmas
#FeistyFeb I love a good juicy historical fiction that centers around gutsy, spirited strong ladies! These three all lived in the 19th century and in some way helped shape woman's rights and lives. #HistoricalHeroines
#ReadJanuary This month's TBR
Somehow I‘d missed this one. An amazing view of women‘s reproductive health care and pregnancy in NYC in the mid-1800‘s. Based on the actual life of Ann Lohman, also known as Madame Restell, this is well-researched, well-written. The details of the midwives' work were mesmerizing--felt a connection to the fictional Axie Muldoon and to Lohman. Plan to read Marge Piercy‘s Sex Wars for more from that era.
"..the soul of a midwife is a broad soul and a gentle soul...a midwife must also keep comfortable with the complexities. What I call the lesser evil."
Vacation reading!
Matilda and Olaf seem to approve of this month's book club pick.
Historical fiction based on a woman in the 1800s who was a midwife who also performed abortions. Really enjoyed this story and the harsh realities of being an orphan and a woman at that time.
If it wasn't 3:30 in the morning, I'd continue to read. This one had me hooked on the very first page!
Starting our next book club book! I'm really looking forward to this one!
