Kill Your Boss
Kill Your Boss | Shane Kuhn
If you're reading this, you're a new employee at Human Resources, Inc. Congratulations. And condolences. At the very least, you're embarking on a career that you will never be able to describe as dull. You'll go to interesting places. You'll meet unique and stimulating people from all walks of life. And kill them. You will make a lot of money, but that will mean nothing to you after the first job. Assassination, no matter how easy it looks in the movies, is the most difficult, stressful, and lonely profession on the planet. Even when you're disguised as an intern. John Lago is a hitman. He has some rules for you. And he's about to break every single one. Published in the US as The Intern's Handbook

I wanted something fun and fast, but God, was this one a slog.

Most of the narration is the first person, and the narrator is unreliable (which is great) and cringingly unlikable (which is not). I like reading about bad people—unless they‘re basic bastards.

Were we supposed to sympathize...?

(I so did not)

And the creepy instalove. Oh my gawd, the instalove 🤮

(The MC‘s credibility we‘ll not talk about)

Why can‘t I just DNF books???

1.5/5

Mehso-so

Well that was... daft.

Surprisingly readable but totally ridiculous, this guidebook for assassin interns was completely bonkers. Taking down roomfuls of armed security with your bare hands bonkers.

The body count is high, the credibility non-existent.

#ReadingResolutions Day 6: My 16 yo daughter may be somewhat of a #RelatableCharacter with her “I‘m so done” look after being interviewed for an internship in the next 2 wks w an award-winning ad agency here in Singapore. Since she wants to take up advertising, I hooked her up with a company who does advertising work for Disney/Marvel among others. When she realized it will be a 9-6 pm day with massive video editing tasks, she was like “Ok, then.”

GatheringBooks truth be told, this is her terrified/excited/somewhat-resigned/woohoo look. 😱🤣😭😍 6y
