The best companion for a quiet shift
I absolutely adored everything about this novel & now I desperately want a sequel. It doesn't even have to be a mystery, just Marissa & Amy making their movie & Isaiah & Marissa carefully finding ways to bridge the neurodivergent divide to gently flirt with each other.
It's funny, it's touching, it's biting, & it is on-the-nose about the movies & #metoo in a way that seems like it would be too obvious, but is actually, exactly, perfect.
A friend of mine gave me this book today. ❤️ little bookish surprise 🎁!
In this entertaining mystery, a film editor arrives on set to discover that the movie she's been hired to work on is plagued with mysterious firings and accidents. Anxious, socially awkward and probably neurodivergent, Marissa gets caught up in an effort to solve the decades old murder at the heart of the movie. Vivid, engaging characters and Marissa's delightfully self-aware point of view made this a fast, fun read, especially for film buffs.
I had to push myself through the first half of this book. The main character Marissa was incredibly difficult to connect with, but by the end I was rooting for her. It was an okay read, 3.5⭐️ in my book.
Not feeling great today but still had to be productive. I‘m super excited to finally be able to sit down and read.
I‘m home from work for a few days so I‘m taking some time to read. Has anyone read this one before? I‘m struggling to figure out this main character.
Rainy day trip to B&N to add some books to my TBR pile 📚
I don‘t think I‘ve read a book, that I can remember, with a lead who is definitely openly on the spectrum. It was fun, and I enjoyed all the movie shoutouts even if they are completely Hollywood mainstream.
As everyone is getting their favourites of the year lists out, I‘m finding new reads that I never heard of! This is one of them.
Marissa is a film editor who gets sucked into a real life mystery on her latest job. The film is based on the unsolved murder of a girl that happened 20 years prior. When Marissa arrives to work, she soon learns that something is wrong on set, and everyone is on edge.
This book is…fine. I don‘t have any specific complaints but I was never invested in any part of it. There‘s a fine line between a “slow burn” and just “slow”and this was the latter.
Joined some book selling/buying groups on Facebook. It might have been a mistake 😂 I‘ve already purchased around 10 books. Whoops.
A compelling thriller! Marissa is a Film editor full of anxiety and who struggles to believe in herself. She goes on set to edit a movie and during the process helps to solve a murder.
A very fun murder mystery that will keep your attention. Not much happens throughout the 300ish pages, but I was invested nonetheless. I always feel an author has a gift when I keep devouring a novel when not much goes on. Really recommend this one! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I don‘t really know what to say about this book. I didn‘t like it, but I didn‘t hate it. It wasn‘t a poorly written book at all, but it dealt with a subject matter that didn‘t really interest me. I was totally lost in parts that delved too deeply into film editing “lingo”. Murder mystery isn‘t. normally my thing, so that also had an impact on my opinion. Thank you, Goodreads, on the ARC.
Marissa is a film editor (on the autism spectrum) who gets hired by a movie company isolated on an island that is being plagued by accidents. (A locked island mystery-ha) She cannot read faces or mannerisms so she relates to people/situations by thinking of movies, scenes, or actors that she is reminded of. When she's in the dark scrambling for help, she thinks: even Jimmy Stewart had flashbulbs. Movie buffs: enjoy. 🎥❤️😊

I‘ve gotten some exciting book mail over the last few days, which includes this finished copy of Elizabeth Little‘s upcoming thriller Pretty as a Picture. I‘m looking forward to reading about “an egomaniacal director, an isolated island, and a decades old murder!” (Quoted from dust jacket flap).
