I‘ve read this book so many times over the years. It‘s one of the only books to make me ugly cry 😭

Today's #mcpl is another Newbery but this one I have not yet read. #mctbr

Kira Kira is a touching Newberry winning story about a family who moved from a Japanese community to Georgia and all of the struggles they face. This book won a newberry award and I think this book will be relatable for kids who are new to a town and feel like they don't fit in. I would use EL 3: "Encourage self talk" so that students can talk about how they relate to this story. TS-IR

Such a beautiful story in so many ways!

Just read this for the kids book club that I run at work and I cannot recommend it enough. It gets all the points for diversity, intelligent writing, and SO MANY FEELS. I don't care how old you are. Read it.
