Mm, delicious pesto. And dragon slaying! The first time I tried to read this, I couldn't get into it. But I know lots of people who love it, so trying again.

Caryl This one was okay; I loved her Exit, Pursued by a Bear. 7y
quietjenn @caryl I've heard great things about that one 7y

Pickpick

For a book with dragons, this had a few surprises like no magic & normal teens with homework to do. Set in a Canada very much like our modern, normal version—the one diff being dragons exist worldwide, are attracted to fossil fuel, and the danger is very real. Siobhan is dragonslayer Owen's bard - to help spread the word & change perceptions. Her narration is great and her musical talent peeks through. No angsty romance, plenty of action. 👍

elkeOriginal Glad I read this for the #sirensreadingchallenge! 8y
Kalalalatja Sounds really great! 8y

Ok, from the Owen sisters in Practical Magic, I am now jumping back to this story of a boy named Owen.
Who is a dragonslayer.
In a world very much like ours - only diff is a constant worry of dragon attacks - dragons who love munching on fossil fuel. So just being near a car holds exciting new dangers. Set in Canada!
Next up in my pursuit of tackling the #sirensreadingchallenge...

readinginthedark Sounds fun! 8y
Kalalalatja Look forward to hearing what you think, it sounds wonderfully weird 😄 8y
elkeOriginal @Kalalalatja What's cool is it doesn't seem weird! Just fighting dragons like normal 🤣 8y
Kalalalatja Okay, I need to add this to my tbr 😄😄 8y

My current read, naked without it's jacket. And for a dragon book, of course there is a french horn hiding underneath.
#nakedbooks

Kalalalatja Am I missing something, or is there some kind of connection between dragons and french horns? 😄 8y
Soubhiville I'm wondering the same thing as @Kalalalatja ... 8y
LibrarianRyan Pretty. I'm reading a book of hers too. Hopefully yours is moving faster than mine. 8y
elkeOriginal @Kalalalatja @Soubhiville HA - that was me being snarky since the horn did NOT make sense until about page 100. Before that, I was 🤔and then at midnight last night, finally I understood. And my 'WTF?' was clarified—and like any unhinged person I randomly posted about it in the middle of the night 🤣🤣🤣 (edited) 8y

Off to a good start with this dragon slayer tale!
Love this quote 🐉💚

tjwill This quote is in one of the books I'm reading (mostly art, quotes, poetry). I'll have to post a picture! 8y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk Also kicks off Gaiman's Coraline. 8y
elkeOriginal @TobeyTheScavengerMonk Because it's a good one! 8y

"Let me get this straight," I said, having swallowed. "You are sending me out in a minivan whose date of manufacture predates the year of my birth, so that I can watch two dragon slayers track down enormous fire-breathing animals, in an effort to prevent me from spending time in the library?"
