Water Witchcraft
Water Witchcraft: Magic and Lore from the Celtic Tradition | Annwyn Avalon
3 posts | 1 read | 3 to read
An accessible in-depth guide to Celtic water lore, including spells, rituals, water spirits, and merfolk Let Annwyn Avalon, a practicing water witch herself, take you into the world of water magic. The water magic and lore in this book focuses on the Celtic tradition, but draws on other water magic traditions as well, and features rainwater, as well as lakes, rivers, oceans, canals, swamps, and other watery locations, together with the folk and magical customs that have been and are still practiced at these places. The book teaches the reader how to set up a water altar at home, how to connect with water spirits, and how to gather or create water witch tools. Readers are encouraged to visit local water sites but will also find an abundance of material to perform at home. Included are practical examples, visualizations, and exercises so any reader can start to take up spell work and establish their spiritual connection to water.

It‘s not been a great week/weekend, and since I‘m still awake at 4 am, I figured it was ok to open my #basicwitchswap package. I‘m overwhelmed @Insightsintobooks It‘s all so eclectic and fun and I love everything. I almost bought the Samhain Oracle cards for myself and I will be drinking coffee out of that mug when I start work in 3 hours. I feel spoiled. Thank you so much. And thank you for hosting @sprainedbrain 🖤

Insightsintobooks I‘m glad you like it! 2y

This book is chock-full of lore and ritual! As the subtitle promises, much of the lore is Celtic. Other lore seems to be of the author‘s creation, though perhaps with a folkloric basis. I made note of quite a number of the rituals. It‘s a good book but not great; I felt it was a bit shallow in some places, and it could use editing on multiple levels (organization and spelling), which leaves me disappointed in the publisher.

KristiAhlers Oh I don‘t have this one. I‘ll have to look for it. 2y

Fun that this book describes this belief of spirits and the dead being unable to cross running water, while another book I‘m reading at the same time (Terciel & Elinor) uses it literally in the magic system—dead spirits and creatures cannot cross running water and, in fact, it can bring them further into death.

rubyslippersreads And remember how water affects the Wicked Witch of the West! 2y
