This was an ok backstory of Shepherd Book, but it was a bit odd. It was told in a backwards fashion, and there wasn't a lot of meat to the story. The art was decent. Overall, it was a very short not bad way to pass a little time, but it's not something I'd seek out.

Book 1/2 finished for #20in4 (easy finish at 59 pages)

Traci1 @KathyWheeler it was really just too short. You'd have 2-4 pages and then it'd say 2 years earlier, then another 2 pages and 6 years earlier, and on like that. You got a teeny view of several periods of time in his life. I just wanted more to it, I guess. 2y

UGH! I was so excited to FINALLY have a book about Book! I know a book isn't a movie isn't a TV show, so I went into this with appropriate expectations on that front. I liked the time jumps & love how this panel set you up for those jumps.

BUT! There were TOO MANY inconsistencies with his character! (listed as spoilers in the comments.)

Sigh. I dunno how to rate this...I'm glad Shepherd Book finally gets to tell his tale but he deserved better.

LaraS Book is clearly “dishonourably discharged“ when serving w the Alliance...so why would Alliance give him special treatment in the TV show?! The Alliance does not forgive and forget. Terrible explanation.

Also, what's up with how he left the Abby to “spread the word of God“ to other communities? He never tries to do that during the series. Not even at the beginning. What gives?

And I know it's minor, but why didn't they explain the strawberry? 5y

Holy shit. I read this one with my mouth hanging open. I don't even know how to explain it. Not only is it a story that just.......I couldn't put it down and it's told in such a way...I am at a loss for words. Best of the Firefly comics. I don't even need to read Leaves on the Wind to say that with confidence.

I love that we get a little more of Firefly in these graphic novels. Joss's name on the cover is all you need to know it's gonna be good, and it has the same Whedon witticisms we've come to love and expect. #browncoatsforever
