Projekt 1065
Projekt 1065 | Alan Gratz
Infiltrate. Befriend. Sabotage. World War II is raging. Michael O'Shaunessey, originally from Ireland, now lives in Nazi Germany with his parents. Like the other boys in his school, Michael is a member of the Hitler Youth. But Michael has a secret. He and his parents are spies. Michael despises everything the Nazis stand for. But he joins in the Hitler Youth's horrific games and book burnings, playing the part so he can gain insider knowledge. When Michael learns about Projekt 1065, a secret Nazi war mission, things get even more complicated. He must prove his loyalty to the Hitler Youth at all costs -- even if it means risking everything he cares about. Including... his own life. From acclaimed author Alan Gratz (Prisoner B-3087) comes a pulse-pounding novel about facing fears and fighting for what matters most.

Finally finished this with my son, and I really enjoyed it. It‘s not suuuuuuper realistic, but I get it‘s for kids (my son is 11). Michael‘s dad is the Irish ambassador in Berlin during WWII, and they, along with Michael‘s mom, are spies for Britain. It has enough to teach about WWII, with hints of the Holocaust, while not being horrific. It‘s a great book for kids interested in history and the world wars.

Read this on advice of a ninth-grade student. Fast-paced, interesting book. Engaging for youth, especially a young boy. This book had enough to keep me interested. There‘s nothing deep or over-thinking things, but I think a lot of boys would like this book. I would read another book by this author!

This is an incredibly taut thriller, made even more engrossing and gut-wrenching due to the fact that so many of the events are real. Michael is a young boy in Germany, the son of Irish spies trying to do all that he possibly can to help defeat the Nazis and end the war. While a number of instances in the book are very convenient , the novel as a whole is really strong and will be incredibly popular with young fans of the spy thriller genre.

This is an action packed middle grade/teen novel about WWII espionage and the Hitler Youth. I think younger readers would stay interested because of the action and learn a lot. I know I did.

I can‘t recall ever reading a book with a character with my name. I‘m as excited as a kid finding their name on a keychain!

sblbooks I'm in the middle of this one too. I've got a hour and 43 minutes left. It's really good. 3y

In the novel “Projekt 1065” a quote that really stood out to me and made me more engaged in the novel was “...there wasn‘t time to get word to my parents. I was just going to have to save the British pilot myself.” (Pg. 44). Without spoiling anything about “Projekt 1065”, the main character has joined a hitler youth camp and has to save the British pilot that has fallen from the sky all by himself...

I am going to be starting the novel “Projekt 1065”. This novel is by Alan Gratz. “Projekt 1065” is about a young boy joining the Hitler Youth as a spy and going undercover to save a British pilot that has fallen from the sky.

"No matter who created these things, we must defend them against the culture destroyers, yes? For what do culture destroyers do? They burn books. They ban music. They rip great art from museum walls. They refuse to teach literature, music, art to their children. They are monsters." pg104

I will read pretty much any World War II novel you put in my hands, and the fact that this one was about a young boy who infiltrates the Hitler Youth as a spy was just a bonus. My only complaint about this book was that the ending felt a little rushed and could have been drawn out a little longer.

This book was a tough read for me, I took a class in college called Social Psychology of the Holocaust, it was about why people did the things that they did & how they justified their actions. This book is about a boy who joins Hitler‘s Youth as a spy to get information, but there are a lot of male characters that join because that is what they believe in. All that being said this book was very good! And I would totally recommend it!

Projekt 1065 is probably one of my favorite novels of all time. During the end is where the action starts to come into play, because everything is thrown at you (in a good way). First, Michael tries to steal some plans, then he learns of a bombing that will happen to the greatest scientist. Finally, all the way at the end, he kills the Junior Gestapo and finds himself being a hero in the spy world. Such an interesting way to express WW2.

Home from a great, although rainy, day at the Children‘s Literature Festival! I still haven‘t made time to read this one, but it‘s moving up the list after a great presentation by Alan Gratz. I also added several other books by various authors to my TBR list. 📚

My school takes students to the Children‘s Literature Festival at the University of Central Missouri each March, but I‘ve never been able to go. This year I am going, and my group is supposed to see Kendare Blake, Alan Gratz, Roland Smith, and Beth Vrabel! I read these books by Smith many years ago and really enjoyed Anna Dressed in Blood, but the books on the left are suddenly on my March TBR. 📚

Good enough to finish, but not a new favorite. The ending seemed rushed and far-fetched.
