Danny Kim is the frontman of a Seattle indie rock band. He's also struggling to graduate from college. After rudely hitting on a cute guy at one of his concerts, he gets in even deeper trouble when the guy proves to be the TA of his accounting class. Though Jiyoon clearly would prefer never to see Danny again, a rough breakup brings them unexpectedly together and a tentative friendship forms. But Danny can barely keep his band afloat and pass all his classes, nevermind learn how to make time for what is rapidly becoming the most important person in his life.

Danny Kim is the frontman for his band The Trouble. One night after a show he rudely puts the moves on a concert goer who happens to be his new accounting class TA, Jiyoon. They forge a friendship after a breakup and as the semester goes on with the success of the band and all his classes, Jiyoon becomes the one person he didn‘t know he needed. This was one of the nicest gay romances I‘ve read in a while but I have dumb beef with one minor 👇🏼

Reggie Danny tells Jiyoon he is aromantic, a person who is not interested or desires a romantic relationship. When did this become a word? Am I getting old? Didn‘t we have a word for this already? Casual whatever or friends with benefits? Don‘t fcking tell me you‘re aromantic and then spend nights over at your “friend‘s” place spooning, caressing each other‘s face, going to a wine tasting on Thursday and then bailing on it because u both think it‘s 👇🏼 6y
Reggie Lame but then buy your own bottle to sneak off to a park where your shoulders touch and the urge to kiss each becomes overwhelming. What am I missing here? Can someone explain this aromantic to me pls?!!l Lol, despite this, I loved this book.😁 6y
merelybookish 😆 Aromantic looks like aromatic. It sounds a bit like asexual. 6y

Reggie @merelybookish but it‘s not. I thought the same thing. Aromantics can be sexual. They just enjoy the friendship of it all. It kinda weirded me out but if you look at some of the reviews on GR there‘s all kinds of “yay for aromantic representation!!!” 6y
merelybookish @Reggie So aromantics like sex but not romance? I'm not sure I get it either... And any comments I might make will offend aromantics. 😬 6y
Reggie @merelybookish Right. I will just say this. For a story with an aromantic main character, it was one of the nicest gay romances I‘ve read in a long time. 6y
merelybookish @Reggie Well that doesn't seem insignificant! 6y
mreads Love the graphic 😃 6y
Theaelizabet Well, this has certainly been an enlightening post! Who knew? 6y
LibrarianJen Interesting. So aromantics like sex but not romance. Ace like romance but not sex, pans like everything and everyone and, and, and yeah. #loveislove 🤷🏼‍♀️ Totally stacking btw. (edited) 6y
KT1432 Lol @ "aromantic rep." ? I also think of aromatic when I see this lol. I'm with you...didn't know this was a word. Who knew? ??‍♀️ 6y
Cathythoughts Relationships have never been too simple... I think there are lots of insecurities , definitely In the early days in my experience... 6y
Reggie @mreads Thanks!! 6y
Reggie @Theaelizabet @LibrarianJen @lele1432 @Cathythoughts I think different words mean different things to different people. Like we all probably have a different idea of romance, anyways it was educational to say the least, lol. 6y
minkyb I learn something new every day. 6y
Reggie @minkyb Happy 3 year litsyversary!!! 6y
minkyb Thank you. Amazing it has been 3 years! @Reggie 6y
Suet624 How do you read so many books?? 6y
Reggie @Suet624 I‘m single and have no kids. That probably has something to do with it. 6y

This is a sweet contemporary NA novel about the lead singer of a Seattle indie rock band, struggling to graduate college. He rudely hits on someone he's attracted to who attends his show, who turns out to be the TA of his hardest class. I love that this has an unabashed aromantic character, and this book does a really good job representing that and navigating that through the development of their friendship and such.
