so-so

A couple of Brits on the verge of retirement spend a year teaching at an American school in Bahrain, to top up funds. This is a light-hearted teaching memoir, with elements of culture-clash - and then the Arab Spring starts to unfold.

Without doubt, there were elements that were fascinating, but the playing up of the humour was

rockpools uncomfortable at times. Partly that was down to the audio- the narrator handled a LOT of accents- but ‘weird Brent‘, presumably autistic and definitely unsuited to teaching, was treated solely as a figure of fun. And I didn‘t feel that I ‘saw‘ much of Bahraini life at all beyond the school and hotel/apartments.

So hmm. Interesting and funny in places, but I can‘t wholeheartedly recommend.
