I listened to this on audio book on a walk (it's only 2 hours). I didn't find it that creepy, and I really didn't like the main character. However, I have a feeling that it will stay with me, and as the investment of time is so little, maybe it's worth reading after all.

No offense but….this was not good. BORING. Not to be controversial but you can tell this was written by a man.

Was curious about this one based on the comparisons to House Of Leaves. But it falls far short in that comparison, as they all do. It was a weird little novella. I‘m also curious about the movie which I can finally watch now since I read it.

This was a quick enticing read. Just enough tension to get you all worked up and enough eerieness to make you hear things outside your room. 👻

I must look into more of Kehlmann's work.

A young family retreats to a cabin in mountains, but the husband soon finds a disturbing message in his journal that is not in his handwriting.

This novella was a bit between a pick and a so-so for me. The ending was good, but it got off to a slow start for me, as I wasn‘t interested in the main character.

Daniel Kehlmann x Stephen King

Big ups to the designer of this back cover - it ~is~ a weird scribble of a book!

A taut, unsettling psychological horror novella. Kehlmann handles classic haunted house, ghost story, and existential madness tropes well—a creeping dread is palpable here. Easily read in one sitting, too. People online have compared it to House of Leaves and The Shining, and I‘d agree, although this is much, much shorter!

Got this for Christmas and just finished this all in one setting tonight. Says novel but this is a perfect little creepy novella. Perfect for a winter‘s night.

The interesting thing about not finishing all your reviews when you first read the book is that your opinion can totally change! Back in Nov when I read this I wasn't impressed and thought it was maybe...a little derivative? I think I had read too many spooky stories back-to-back. Looking back, my opinion has changed & I actually think it was quite lovely--parts have stuck in my brain for much longer than I anticipated.

Next audiobook. In the mood for some quick horror and this seemed to fit the bill.

That was... interesting. Actually it was a decent creepy story, but my expectations were high because it cost the same as a regular hardcover. And it was only about a hundred small pages. Worth a library read though.

A writer on a remote getaway with his wife and daughter. Things happen. Is it in his head or an emotional breakdown. This was literally a book that called to me from the shelves.....I love the mystery in a blind read. Great ending.

Ok. I think I finally have my #spookathon TBR nailed down. Maybe... I'm really looking forward to reading all these. Depending on how my week goes, I may swap out Revenge for Before The Devil Breaks You.

What a dark creepy little f**ked up twisty tale. I was definitely unsettled and unnerved by it and often chilled too. I didn't always get it though. Definitely one for the darker colder nights if you want an odd scary tale. Maybe a library book though as it's so short (c8 seems a tad steep - if I'm allowed to say that.

This spinetingler takes little more than an hour to read, and consists mostly of atmosphere & growing dread. It's not a gruesome, jump scares or monsters kind of horror, but more a modern Twilight Zone vibe.

Eerie & chilly (as opposed to chilling), and a little too familiar maybe, like 'I've read this before, or seen it in a movie' (or maybe it *was* an episode of the Twilight Zone?) but it's possible that was intentional. Anyway, I liked it.

I'm in love with the look of this book. It has been sitting on my desk for over a week begging to be picked up. Hoping to get to it this weekend. I love the feeling of looking forward to the next book. #24in48 Paired with my newest #magnoliarecordclub #Nealcarpenter

Since the unabridged audiobook is only two hours long, and available as part of my unlimited access TuneIn subscription, I will probably give it a try.
