Still playing catch up.

#LetterI #TheAlphabetGame

Jed Rubenfeld has only written two books but loved both of them. How can you resist a book that involves Sigmund Freud and a sadistic killer targeting Manhattan‘s wealthy heiresses.

@AlwaysBeenALoverOfBooks

AllDebooks Oh these are so good. Have you seen the tv adaptation? 2y
Andrew65 @AllDebooks No I didn‘t know there was a tv adaptation, will have to search them out that. Thanks 😁 2y
Andrew65 @AllDebooks Think that‘s from a different book. (edited) 2y
AllDebooks @Andrew65 still very good, start of using forensic psychology 2y

5/2019 📚 Ugh, so long, so slow, so much superfluous information. Do not recommend. Can‘t fathom the good reviews. Only positives are; well enough written to make ploughing through bearable, and I didn‘t guess the plot twist (but I didn‘t care by the time it came about, and was so shallowly explained). ⭐️ 3/10

It‘s been a long, but productive week, and with crumby weather today, raging hormones, and crap news from the US and my own home province this week, I‘ve been in a completely shitty mood. I‘m turning off the work and the news, and snuggling up in comfy pajama‘s with this backlist to indulge the historical crime jag I‘ve been on. Perhaps a touch ironic that this is my “therapy” this evening 😉

#TBRtemptation post 4! This is the first installment in the Freud series. In this historical thriller, in 1909, Sigmund Freud and his rivals and protege, Carl Jung, arrive in NYC during a murder spree of heiresses. Nora Acton manages to escape, and Dr. Stratham Younger calls on Freud to help his client. Freud must also fend off a mysterious conspiracy to destroy him. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

Andrew65 I loved this one and his follow up book The Death Instinct. Do read them!!!! I particularly liked the connection to the Bomb on Wall Street in 1920 in the second one - I'd never heard of this before. I just wish he'd write another one, nothing since 2010. Forget the legal career and write, pretty please! 🙏 7y
julesG This is a great novel! Can highly recommend it. 7y
minkyb Oooh. This is new to me! 7y
Anna40 Read it a few years ago. Sorry to say that I didn't like it... 7y

Reasonably paced mystery taking place in the early 1900's. Characters were interesting but the plot line just didn't engage me nearly enough.

I would like this book to move along a little more quickly than it is. Maybe if I were more interested in Freud's theories?

Lena: "I found this book on the street in Hamburg before coming to New York for holiday. It's about Sigmund Freud and his first visit to New York - a nice connection I think. I wouldn't give books away like that, but I do share them with others. I keep the ones I really love. The Harry Potter books my grandma gave me I will definitely keep. There are memories in books - about people, places and great stories that you don't want to forget about."
