Crossing Niagara
Crossing Niagara: The Death-Defying Tightrope Adventures of the Great Blondin | Matt Tavares
3 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
Applaud Matt Tavaress latest feat a gripping tale of real-life daredevilry perfectly balanced by stunning illustrations. "Monsieur Blondin is to cross Niagara Falls this afternoon, or perish in the attempt." Troy Daily Times, June 30, 1859 When the Great Blondin announced that he was going to walk from America to Canada across the Niagara River on a rope that was more than 1,100 feet long and just 3 inches wide, hanging 160 feet above the raging river, people came from everywhere. Some came to watch him cross. Some came to watch him fall. Some thought he wouldnt show up at all. But he did show up. And he did walk across the river. And then he did something else amazing. He crossed the river on that tightrope again and again, adding another death-defying flourish each time. Matt Tavaress gorgeous, riveting account of the daredevil of Niagara Falls is sure to hold readers in its grip, just as Blondin's feats enthralled those spectators on the cliffs more than one hundred and fifty years ago.

Thank you, LibraryThing, for the knowledge that my TBR pile is taller than Niagara Falls. 😬 And for the knowledge that it weighs the same as 21.45 adult badgers. I didn‘t know that I wanted to know that, but I‘m glad that I do know now. As for the 8.68 miles of pages, maybe I‘d rather not think about that.

squirrelbrain That‘s so funny! 🤣 2y
Hooked_on_books The badgers! 😂 And, it‘s almost as tall as the Taj Mahal! I think the real challenge here is to add books to make it taller than the TM! 2y
Amiable This is the best! 😄 2y

BarbaraJean @Hooked_on_books 😂 Or I could go the other direction and try reading it down to a more-manageable (!) Statue of Liberty size? I wonder how many books I need to read to bring the weight down by one badger… 2y
Rissreads Omg! Lol! This is hilarious! 🤣🤣♥️ 2y
Tea_and_Starstuff This is making me laugh. Oh no :D 2y

I can't imagine a time when someone crossing Niagra falls on a tightrope would be anything other than front page news! This is a great book about determination. Love showing kids real-life examples of effort, determination, and taking risks.
