I suppose the story was interesting...but can I see this all being played out by middle-school-aged children...no, not at all. No matter how rich they are. If they had been high schoolers...maybe I could have bought it.

I have problems with this book. No way these kids are 13/14. No way all these kids planned and kept this secret. I have problems with the end. Every five seconds I rolled my eyes and said no way. No....just no. I have no words. I mean, I do but there‘s too many for this post.

Pretty clever and entertaining format of a "video journal."I felt that the angst and drama from the protagonist was annoying, yet realistic for a middle school girl. What I did not find realistic for middle school kids was the plot. I kept having to remind myself that the characters were 13. If they had been 16, it would have been far more believable for me. I'm in between pick and so-so. #audibleoriginal #audiobook

Between a pick & so-so, the so-so for story believability (if they had put it in high school rather than middle school I could have bought more of the plot), BUT rounded up to a pick for the presentation, with the narration & the video logs it was very well done & a fun listen while #audiosouping 🍲 (not to mention it was a free #Audible Original). With the beginnings of Rick Bayless‘s Emerald Corn Chowder. Finished soup pics to come later on.

This was a decent story told from an entirely inappropriate age, the characters were 13 in middle school, making so many of the details impossible and therefore I listened in disbelief. I have really bright kids (13 and 16), but they wouldn‘t know to set up an LLC and how to use offshore accounts to hide the ownership of the LLC. Just an example. Told by high school juniors—maybe I could make the leap. Two-1/2 stars. Good story, bad details

Today‘s #audiosouping listening choice. I started with something darker but ended up switching to this #Audible Original YA novel which is kind of fun with it being told in video logs. The start of today‘s Zucchini, Pea & Basil Soup. I expected a stormier day but our storms have turned to tropical depressions, making for a very humid weekend. Ah well, this Ottolenghi soup will be good for lunches. Finished soup pics coming later. 🍲

Audio-organizing my moving boxes. This must be YA; it‘s about young teens who‘ve got scholarships to a high-falutin school. The narrator‘s voice is a bit irritating but I‘m getting used to it. It‘s a light easy listen while trying to figure out which boxes are highest priority to take to my new law firm.

Trashcanman I'm glad you are OK. I have no idea where in tex you are. But I'm glad you posted 5y
Texreader @Trashcanman Thank you! I‘ve been thinking of you and glad to hear from you. 5y

Another cute Audible Original

Audible has figured out how to stand-out when it comes to audiobooks. This book is told thru Emily Poe's vlogs, & although it can be distracting, it makes the story come alive. You hear every time she turns on the camera, traffic in the background, rain, etc. I enjoyed the storyline, & was so keen to know what happened next. There's a lot of implausibility, & I wish it dove into the issues of class and abuse more as it had the bare bones of it.

Jee_HookedOnBookz Great review, Kayla! 5y

It was a solid okay. The end actually gave me a surprise which is cool. I swear one of the kids sounds exactly like Sid the Science Kid and I focused on that a bit too much haha

My nails need redone but I‘ll be sad to see my Vonnegut nails go. But on the positive side, my gym gave me four free audible books so I‘m listening to this. It‘s a fun distraction in the car even if it‘s a little immature. Emily definitely reminds me of a thirteen year old me. 🤣

SW-T Nice gym! Enjoy your audio listening 🙂 5y

My review for a #tbrjarpick that I just finished listening to.

My next #tbrjarpick is...The Mystery Of Alice by #leebacon. This is another Audible Original and I‘m interested to see how it is. Here‘s what it‘s about: “Thirteen-year-old Emily Poe has been given the opportunity of a lifetime: a chance to attend the exclusive Audyn School in Manhattan. But to win the scholarship, she has to pass a test like nothing she‘s ever experienced before: a nearly bare room, a set of strange clues, a locked door.”

I think I would‘ve enjoyed this as a teen/pre-teen. I wasn‘t the target audience. But as usual, the #audibleoriginal was produced well and the narrators did a great job. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #mystery #audiobook

rretzler I also chose this as my Audible original. I was skeptical of my pick, and now even more so. The monthly choices just don‘t seem very good to me. The only book so far that interested me, I had already purchased. 😕 6y
I_Like_Big_Books @rretzler I completely agree. It's rare that I even pick one. Don't get me wrong, the production is typically really good but none of them usually sound appealing to me. As I was listening to this one, I just kept thinking... how many teens really listen to audible? I'm sure some do but it can't be Audible's target audience. 6y
rretzler I usually pick my 2 just to take advantage but doubt that I will get around to reading them. As for the teen part, I think it may be more than one would think. My 14 yo is mildly dyslexic and a very reluctant reader - however, he doesn‘t mind listening to audiobooks or being read to, so we share my Audible subscription. I suppose it‘s possible that Audible may want to have one teen pick each month, but I haven‘t been impressed with those either. 6y
I_Like_Big_Books @rretzler Good point! My kids are still young but I do like the idea of getting them into Audible when they get older. I don't know about sharing my account though - :) the majority of my library is a little too risque! Lol! :) 6y
