Mehso-so

This is an eloquent book that suffers from the problem that most books in 1st person plural suffer: vague plot. Worse: why generalize about Africans when that's exactly what slavery accomplished? As part of a series of books on the slave trade this book would be wonderful. Alone it's underwhelming.

DrBird When I say this book "generalizes" I should say that it's unclear whether the novel NEEDS to generalize. As the collective "we" thins out, names and faces become distinct but only briefly. Otherwise traditions & identity swirl ogether resulting in a voice of "Africans" not "individuals from Africa". 9y
