I received this as an eARC from NetGalley. I should probably say right up front that "slave girl falling in love with the master" trope is not my thing, so I was predisposed to pan this novel. I think it tried to subvert the trope but failed to do so, in part because of its treatment of gender. Also, for a book that was widely criticized its cover's similarity to blackface, I found the racial politics very disappointing. I would not recommend.

I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of this book and absolutely loved it. it is a great light read. it has humor, fantasy, adventure, and some romance.

I'm so excited to start Nemesis by Anna Banks! I felt so lucky to be approved on NetGalley! This fantasy novel sounds amazing - Princess Sepora is the last Forger in all the five kingdoms. She creates energy for all but her father intends to weaponize her powers to incite war. I heard there is a little romance in here too! Swooning!

I quite enjoyed this one! It's not full of the humor I expect from Anna's books but it's rife with steamy romantic tension. I also loved the world building and the magic! A pretty damned good fantasy if I say so myself. I can't wait for book 2!
