Lion and the Bird
Lion and the Bird | Marianne Dubuc
6 posts | 5 read | 2 to read
A lion in dungarees and a bird with a broken wing form an unlikely friendship when they meet one autumn day. As the pair watch the other birds in the flock fly away, Lion takes it upon himself to care for his new friend. Soon the pair are sharing stories in front of the fire, taking sleigh rides and whiling away winter evenings in their slippers. Then, one day spring arrives. And so too do the other birds. Will Lion and Bird have to say goodbye to their friendship for the summer? #MagnificentMarch Day 21: This gorgeous picturebook features one of my #FavoriteLiteraryFriendship. Almost wordless & illustrated in gentle colours & muted tones with a lot of white spaces for the eyes to rest, this is a book to quietly savor in all its whispered thoughts. Even the fonts are laid out very discreetly in minuscule format, almost afraid to disrupt the peace of the blues and the soothing greens. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-9lf

Philosophical picture books are thick on the ground, but philosophical picture books that you actually want to read are hard to find. Not so, Lion And The Bird, which forsakes treacle for a minimalist and non-cliched take on friendship and love.
