2/16/1944 Richard Ford was born. Read a few of his short stories, have not read his Bascombe series, of which this tagged book is the first.I must have a masters or PhD in book accumulation, a little slow on the follow through of actually reading them! 🎂I have a love for these old Vintage Contemporaries!📚
so-soThis book has seen better days. My copy is a mess. And the book itself hasn't aged well. But it's really well written. It's amazing how much things have changed since this was published in 1986.

pickFrank 39, divorced after the loss of eldest child. Over an easter wknd he narrates his life as he visits the grave with ex,flies to detroit with g/f,i/vws injured ball player, visits g/fs family, lends a shoulder to a trbld friend, & reflects on his life.
A well written story but like 'rabbit' there's only so much male middle age moans i can take so on to summer with #MCwhowhines.

pickThis book was intriguing. While reading it I found the main character to be pretty boring and uninspiring, and I often did not like his interior monologue. Yet the writing is tremendous, and I realized that the author had created this spot-on character for me to have these feelings about. I ended up liking the book, and I can see why it has received the accolades it has through the years. #MountTBR #192019
bailedI don't understand how this was on Time's best 100 novels list. I slogged through 75 pages of self-indulgent misogyny and pettiness before quitting, which I rarely do.
