My cousin and I read this back when we were raising our babies, and all I remember about it is that we both fell so head over heels in love with Oscar that he was all we could talk about for months 🥰

I can see why it won awards. It‘s one of those books that are written differently. Its more artistic. I did like all the stories interweaved but it wasn‘t necessarily enjoyable love stories. Most were tragic love stories. The characters were all well developed and interesting so you were invested that way, but there wasn‘t really happy endings. Even the one that was, wasn‘t elaborated on. So, I give it a so-so because it just wasn‘t my book.
I guess it‘s fine. There were just so many things about the characters I didn‘t like. And I didn‘t care how it all turns out for them.

I went to two thriftstores today and hit the jackpot.
The writing in this book can be hard to follow as it is extremely quick witted and has cleverly hidden hints of sarcasm. There are a number of characters that the writer allows you to develop a relationship with and just as quickly things go up they go down. Much like real life. I thought the book albeit depression and sometimes to quick for me was lovely and I would recommend to anyone who loves a good sarcastic sharp and sad drama.
Eh...this seems a bit too cutesy for my liking. Also not feeling the book within a book narrative. Bailing at page 30.
A good friend, whose taste in reading I highly respect, gave me this book as a going-away present when I moved to South Africa for a year. It was one of the books I took with me. My friend told me how much she loved it, so I felt obligated to finish it. I very much did not love it--not a likeable or interesting character to be found! I left it behind in South Africa. #didntlikeitstillfinished #marchintoreading
"I don't think that most women have to prove that they're real women. You live long enough, you graduate to being real."
"Above me in the clear night sky, the moon, Earth's mad companion, is belting out show tunes."
There was something so lovely & tender about this book. I just won't part with it. It will sit on my shelves forever.
