I thought of this book for yesterday‘s prompt. It is set on the Greek isle of Erikousa. The history of the island & its role in WWII is interesting & the writing descriptive & beautiful.

Even though this was a slow read, this book was amazing. The author took her own families history and turned it into a work of fiction. As a granddaughter of holocaust survivors reading that this authors grandmother hid jews in Greece made me love this book even more. There are so many layers to this book, it is so deep. What a beautiful story.

Day 10 #JubilantJuly #onomatopoeia I wasn't finding a lot of onomatopoeia on my shelves outside of Mary Roach's Gulp, Grunt, etc. but then I thought of this book and the 'whisper' of the wind through the cypress trees on a Greek isle. 🌳🌳🌳
"And as it is with scars, it is often best not to pick and prod at our wounds, but to try and forget they are there. We pray that somehow, eventually, over time we will heal. There is always a reminder, a permanent mark on our skin, on our soul..."
