This book is mostly set in the U.S. but it is a retelling of a Chinese folktale. I‘ve enjoyed both of the books I‘ve ready by Gloria Chao, including American Panda. This was one of the books recommended to me through MyTBR. #China #LitsySpringBreak

This was such a cute little romance. I picked it up for #readharder2020, a book that takes place in a rural setting. Its set in the middle of nowhere Indiana where there is just one Chinese student....until a second one shows up. I may not be Chinese or familiar with the cultural differences, bit I am quite familiar with being the sole representative of a given minority. It's funny how experiences can be really different and similar. Love it! ♥️♥️
Excellent storytelling about identity crises that kids with multicultural backgrounds have.
I wonder if Asians have our own special brand of shame generational trauma or if this is a universal experience. I felt so much of this book. 💙 #StayHome24in48
I stretched my lunch hour a bit in order to finish this. I enjoyed it just as much as American Panda. Gloria Chao created a main character I cared about as she navigates high school in a very white small town in Indiana and tries to understand her parents. There‘s a retelling of a Chinese legend and it frames the narrative. I thought the love story was good but the rest of the story was also enjoyable.
Today‘s book! I loved her first book, American Panda, and this one is great so far.
Someone is watching me read tonight! 📚🐱📚🐱📚🐱
