Byron's Poetry and Prose
Byron's Poetry and Prose: Authoritative Texts, Criticism | George Gordon Byron Baron Byron
6 posts | 4 read | 1 to read
Byron's Poetry and Prose presents an extensive selection of Byron's poetry, letters, and journal entries in chronological clusters, allowing readers to see the changes that took place in his writing in the context of the places he lived and his fame, exile, and travels. "Criticism" is chronologically keyed to Byron's poetry and reprints both classic and recent examinations of Byron's writing and life, including assessments by Anne Barton, Donald H. Reiman, Jane Stabler, Jerome J. McGann, Susan J. Wolfson, and James Chandler. A Biographical Register, Chronology, Selected Bibliography, and Index of Poem Titles and First Lines are also included.

Cathythoughts @squirrelbrain far too restrained !! 😁 6y
TrishB My daughter had me laughing about Byron today. One of her friends in English today thought that Lord Byron and George Gordon Byron were different people. Charlotte did a lot of eye rolling! 6y
quietlycuriouskate I'll pass (on both the gin and Lord B) but if you should find a Shelley vodka.... The Flask of Anarchy, maybe. 😀 6y

Lady Caroline Lamb may have called Lord Byron "mad, bad and dangerous to know" but he had the last word. #Remember #PoetryMatters
Do you think she's made him #paranoid? #AnglophileApril

#FierceFeb #Criminal

It's criminal that Byron's friends burnt his memoirs after his death. Frederic Raphael's biography is a rollicking read but doesn't seem to be in the Litsy database so I assume it's out of print. That's criminal too.

batsy Such a shame it's out of print! The one review of it on Goodreads makes it sound so good. 7y
Centique @CarolynM yay - we‘re both Byron fans it seems! I‘m going to use him for a prompt later in the month 😊 I‘d love to read this bio too. 7y
CarolynM @batsy @Centique It's only short but Raphael is such a good writer and he presents it almost as an adventure - the story rockets along. I would definitely recommend it. (edited) 7y

robinb @monalyisha yes we do, don‘t we?! 😊 The colors are beautiful, but it‘s not quite as large as it appeared on website. That‘s my bad though. The measurements were listed, I just didn‘t pay attention to them. Still a nice bag! ❤️ 7y
monalyisha @robinb Oh, that‘s good to know! I probably wouldn‘t have looked before buying either. 😅 It would be nice if they had a picture with a model, for scale. 7y
robinb @monalyisha I actually did see a model carrying it! It looked longer in that picture but maybe she was carrying a heavy load??!! 🤣🤣🤷🏻‍♀️ 7y

One of the many things on my shelf that was introduced to me in college, but that I so rarely return to. Oh Byron, you rapscallion bisexual lord of ridiculousness.
