This was really good, until it wasn't. It took a strange turn that didn't flow with the beginning of the story. I adore Kemmerer's emotion and passion, but this was the first book of hers that missed the mark for me. This started as a solid 4 but ended closer to a 2.75.

This book was EXACTLY what I needed — a charged, dynamic teen murder mystery with two incredibly compelling protagonists! Seriously, I loved everything about Thomas — he was smart, frightened, angry, sarcastic, sweet & soulful. This, coupled with Charlotte's savvy, kind-hearted nature made for great narration. So, despite a plot that wove about drunkenly before hurtling like a speeding train into the climax, this book was a REALLY fun ride! ★★★☆☆

I really loved this book. It was a bit of a slow burn at the start but I definitely enjoyed it and when a book can shock me with a twist I never saw coming? Definitely gets a thumbs up.

3 stars 1) starts off as a murder mystery but then takes a turn for the cryptic & weird 2) not entirely sure anything was resolved at end and while standalone it definitely has potential for a sequel 3) a slow burn book where not a ton happens.
