Beneath the Attic | V.C. Andrews
Long before Garden of Shadows, the prequel to Flowers in the Attic, a young girl named Corrine Dixon met Garland Foxworth and, after a short, passionate rendezvous, the two shared a forbidden and complicated relationship. Now, in this evocative and thrilling tale from New York Times bestselling author V.C. Andrews, discover the fascinating family history of the Dollanganger clan and how they came to be as a result of a fast and passionate seduction. In 1890, Corrine Dixon meets and is swept away by the charms of rich, sophisticated, and handsome Garland Foxworth. After discovering that shes pregnant, Garland does what appears to be the honorable thing and marries her in a huge wedding ceremony on the luxurious Foxworth Hall grounds while both families keep her pregnancy a secret. Now the mistress of the labyrinthine estate, Corrine discovers that nothing is what is seems. Garland is not the man she expected and shes uncomfortable with his intense infatuation with his deceased mothers memory. Can she survive this strange new life? Or is her fate already sealed? Explore the origins of the legendary Dollanganger family in this page-turning and gripping gothic thriller.

Mehso-so

The narcissism is *real* af with Corrine and for a while seemed to the whole focus of the book. But once the actual story started I was sort of hooked. Nothing really happens bc it's a set up for a series that I'm not really sure I want to invest in. I have the second book, so yeah, I'll go at least that far; but overall, I'm kind of wishy-washy about the whole thing.

Starting this today. Cursed my mother via text, once again, for getting rid of her hardcover copies of Flowers In The Attic and Petals on The Wind 🤬😂 Kills me every time I think about it 😫

currentlyreadinginCO Oh, I didn't know that this exists 👀👀 1y
TheBookgeekFrau @currentlyreadinginCO I vaguely remember hearing something about it and then promptly forgot until I came across this copy in a local indie bookstore. So far I'm not terribly impressed, but I've only read 40 pages, so 🤞🏼🤞🏼 1y

To be honest, after reading the Diary series and Secret Brother I was scared to read this new spinoff prequel series. I actually enjoyed this one! I liked how the original Corrine was how I always envisioned her; a spoiled girl who doesn‘t know how the real world works. The story was very creative and flowed really well with the original novels. Definitely give it a chance if you are skeptical. You might find you actually enjoy it.

Let me start by saying this book is so not good, but amazing all that same time. The writing is horrid, and the historical markers are just wrong, but it gave me this tinge of my youth, which is exactly what I wanted. This is trademark Andrews in every way.

Thank you NetGalley and Gallery Books for an Advanced Reader's Copy in exchange for an honest review.

MelissaSue81 I love this review, lol. 5y

Fair warning- this is actually a horrible book. It‘s so historically inaccurate that it‘s comical (set in 1890, ten years before Margaret Mitchell‘s birth & references Scarlett O‘Hara) & the ending is abrupt (the second half will be out next year). But I secretly kinda loved it. It made me nostalgic for illicit reading & the style of this ghost-writer is straight out of the Sweet Valley pool of writers. I want to see what‘s next-thanks #NetGalley!

rather_be_reading i totally agree w everything you said! i felt the exact same way. 5y
TorieStorieS @rather_be_reading Hahahahaha!! I know!! I mean it‘s awful!!! But... I‘m so excited for the second half!!! 5y
rather_be_reading i know it very weirdly transported me back to when I read the “Flowers“ series. 5y

I just got approved for this today!! I didnt even know there was a new book coming out until today!! Cannot wait to read! Anyone else read the "Flowers" series when they were younger??

brilliantglow I read it, I think in 8th or 9th grade. Really enjoyed it. Not sure if I would feel the same way now though. 5y

Butterfinger Wow! I remember vividly. It's been more than 20 years, but those books can't be forgotten. 5y

BobbieGirl7 I‘m so exited for this!!! I love V.C. Andrews. 5y
Rachel_nyc I love that she‘s still writing books 30+ years after her death! 🤣 The Flowers series is what got me hooked on reading as a kid. Totally inappropriate material since I was I think 10 when I read the first one but it instilled a lifetime love of reading so definitely worth it! 5y
elemar Not gonna lie... I'm kind of excited. I haven't read VC Andrews in years. 5y
rather_be_reading @brilliantglow agreed! i read them around the same time 5y

TheBookgeekFrau @rather_be_reading It's so crazy I'M that old 😂🤣 5y
ChristinasBookChronicles @rather_be_reading 🤔 Goodreads doesn't have a lot of good things to say about Andrew Neiderman's work or this book. I'm curious to see what you think. I will be rereading Flowers in the Attic though. Like @Rachel_nyc that one got my hooked at a likely inappropriately young age 🤷🏻‍♀️👍 5y
rather_be_reading @ChristinasBookChronicles i was also looking at tht bt i am still going to read it. ill let u all knw 5y
