I thought this was a little predictable, but I still enjoyed the fast pacing. For me, it was a good choice for #Booked2022 #cultorreligion

A quick listen, with a fantastic premise (I do love stories about cults). Sadly, it falls short on the story and character side of things. The writing is too YA-ish to be able to fully build the world of the cult - I truly didn‘t understand what the beliefs of the cult were or how their community functioned. This is partly due to the lack of understanding/knowledge/curiosity from the MC Piper, but also just fundamental story building flaws.
Absolute 5 star listen!! Wow! I have never finished an Audiobook this fast in my life.
This story showcases the before and after of Piper being initiated into the community, a cult run by her father. A cult she never knew existed. After the government's siege, Piper is taken away from her Father, her siblings, and her best friends to live on the Outside with them.
A story of self-discovery, trust, and truth.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars!!
Starting this audiobook!! The cover looks so haunting, I love it.
A fictional story about Piper and her father's cult that she never realized she was trapped in. Until the day the government raids the compound and separates Piper from her family, her Father's followers and the boy she loves.
Now Piper is living outside, with a woman they claim is her real mother - a woman they say Father stole her from.
Gonna predict a 5 star listen! ⭐
THE DETAILS ● REALISTIC FICTION ● TWO TIMELINES --SAME POV (BEFORE & AFTER) ● A RAW, ENTRANCING LOOK AT LIFE IN A CULT ● BEFORE: FROM THE BRAINWASHING TO THE ABUSE ● AFTER: ADJUSTING TO NORMAL LIFE
This book is a short quick read/listen that never gets bogged down with too many details...I flew through it and I was finished before I knew it.

This was completely compelling!! It felt like a very true story, even though it was fiction. I read through it so fast because of the before/after format and wanting to see how Piper pieced the two together.
I‘m sad that The Liar‘s Daughter by Megan Cooley Peterson hasn‘t received a lot of attention. It‘s definitely worth checking out! It‘s a young adult novel about a girl who grew up in a cult but, even more so, it‘s a book about the powerful and frightening effects of brainwashing and the freedom in finding your own identity.
My full review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2984588133 Let me know if you‘ve read it or if it‘s on your TBR!
1. Tagged title plus Harry‘s Trees and Woman on the Edge
2. I have one to pick up. It‘s a children‘s chapter book and the reason behind me borrowing it is a very long story! Haha
3. Five fluffy ferrets (which sounds like a book title)

Did you get any new books today, if you celebrate Christmas? What did you receive?
I did not technically get these books today, as my husband and I exchanged books last night to celebrate the Icelandic tradition of Jólabókaflóðið. I‘m so happy with the two he picked out for me and despite having an enormous TBR pile, these will likely be put closer to the top!
I have read endless amounts of books on cults, religious families and off the beaten path of zealous nature. This one was not only full of believable real life information, it was so well written, i felt like i was living part of the book. I really enjoyed this. I look forward to reading any other books that this author writes. The characters were so well developed, so full of real emotion and thoughts and actions. Such a well created story.
I blame Litsy for my sudden urge to buy loads of books...as if I haven't bought enough already

I didn‘t hate this book, I didn‘t love this book. The storyline was good going back-and-forth between before and after. It was predictable yet there were still holes that needed to be filled in. I could put it down when I needed to do something and come back and pick it up. I was curious about what would happen next but he didn‘t have to know. All in all a good book but not my favorite
Excited to dig in to this one!! Fall day. Empty library. Shouldn‘t take long!!
