One of the delights of doing #BBRC while the libraries were closed was discovering Orca Books - a Canadian publisher who seem to focus on indigenous authors and stories, and whose ebooks are actually available in libraries here in the UK. This was my favourite picture book - the illustrations are just beautiful. #CanadaDay #JulyJourneys

Sometimes I think a book‘s purpose in your life is to lead you to another book. I added these 2 to my tbr (1by the same author) as a result of reading this one and looking forward to learning more about Indian Residential School in Canada.

IBBY Canada has put together a digital catalogue of 100 best #picturebooks by First Nations, Métis and Inuit authors and illustrators. It‘s available for free online. What are you waiting for? These books are fantastic! I especially love those that are illustrated by Julie Flett (who also did the cover shown above) and by George Littlechild.

Doing some binge reading of short stuff at the library and kicked it off with this beautiful board book. Julie Flett is one of my favourite illustrators, and her work here is fantastic. This is my first time reading anything from Monique Gray Smith, and the story is lovely. This look at childhood happiness certainly made my heart fill with happiness. Recommended for adults in need of a pick me up and any small kids in need of a good book.

I love this picture book that looks for the beauty in nature and family. The illustrator,Julie Flett, is also a Native American and one of my favorite illustrators working right now. This is a perfect author/illustrator pairing.
