26 Marathons
26 Marathons: What I've Learned About Faith, Identity, Running, and Life From Each Marathon I've Run | Meb Keflezighi, Scott Douglas
10 posts | 6 read | 4 to read
When four-time Olympian Meb Keflezighi ran his final marathon in New York City on November 5, 2017, it marked the end of an extraordinary distance-running career. Meb will be remembered as the only person in history to win both the Boston and New York City marathons as well as an Olympic marathon silver medal. Meb's last marathon was also his 26th, and each of those 26 marathons has come with its own unique challenges, rewards, and outcomes for him. Through focused narrative, Meb describes key moments and triumphs that made each marathon a unique learning experience and shows runners--whether recreational or professional--how to apply the lessons he's learned to their own running and lives. Chronologically organized by marathon, 26 Marathons offers wisdom Meb has gleaned about life, family, identity, and faith in addition to tips about running, training, and nutrition. Equal parts inspiration and practical advice, this book will provide readers an inside look at the life and success of one of the greatest runners living today.

This book reaffirmed what I think of Meb. He‘s a class act. He‘s incredibly humble and your stereotypical runner; run through pain even knowing better. I did that! And a half marathon with tendinitis in my right achilles tendon. This book showed his highs and lows with his pro running career. Some may say it‘s repetitive but I found that he‘s human. He learned hard lessons. He‘s open about his downs and his faith. 👇

eanderson I got to see him at the Indy Mini in 2016. He passed my husband and I like he was just on a short warm up run while we were on the track. He‘s so graceful! So glad I took the time to listen to his book. It revitalizes my love for running. I may never run a full marathon but I will run my 9th Half marathon in the next year or so. 😀 4y

I loved this read. Definitly wouldn't be interesting to someone who doesn't love hearing the minute details of a run, but I adored the organization and inights of this book. There were definitly many times when he complained about a slow 5:21 mile and I'm like coooool cool that is the most unrelatable thing I've ever read lol. But his insights on perserverance, healing from injuries, and stirving to be the best version of himself were beautiful

Memoir of an Olympic marathon runner, in the form of 26 race reports: one for each marathon of his career. He pairs each race with a lesson for running and life, but I'm here for the race reports. I've been a marathoner myself, but in a very different class: my best time is almost twice Meb's. So I relish the insight into what it is like to run with the elites, and to know that some of the joys and pains are ones I recognize.

Loving the idea of #bookspin so throwing out a list for March that includes books sitting on my nightstand for too long and a huge number of things downloaded on my Kindle that got buried. @thearomaofbooks

TheAromaofBooks Great list! I think this month I am going to do all Kindle books. I have a bad habit of purchasing them and then promptly forgetting their existence! 5y

If you are a runner, you will probably enjoy this book. Meb talks a lot about mental toughness, how he trains, splits, pace, PRs and what it‘s like to be an elite runner. I loved it!
