Blacksad: Amarillo | Juan Diaz
7 posts | 13 read | 3 to read
Hard-boiled feline detective John Blacksad is back in the latest tour de force from the multiple-award-winning duo of writer Juan Daz Canales and artist Juanjo Guarnido! Taking a much-needed break after the events of A Silent Hell, Blacksad lands a side job driving a rich Texan's prized yellow Cadillac Eldorado across 1950s America, hitting the back roads from New Orleans to Tulsa. But before long, the car is stolen and Blacksad finds himself mixed up in another murder, with roughneck bikers, a shifty lawyer, one down-and-out Beat generation writer, and some sinister circus folk! When John Blacksad goes on the road, trouble is dead ahead! * Eisner and Harvey award-winner! * Available in English for the very first time! * Translated by Katie LaBarbera and Neal Adams! * Introduction by Neal Adams!

Mehso-so

There is some decent stories and some outstanding artwork in the Blacksad series, but this is by far the weakest album. There is no real plot, and the art is substandard. (Which is not terrible. Guarnido is too talented for that.) It is understandable that the series is on a break now.

I'm sad to have completed the Blacksad series, because they are such engaging, beautiful books. A Silent Hell was a little lackluster in its story, but still a fun ride and includes a great section where artist Juanjo Guarnido breaks down his process. Amarillo was a different kind of story for the series and quite good. I'll definitely be checking out the PlayStation game in September!

In this short volume, Blacksad hits the road to Texas. He‘s on the hunt for a hot headed beatnik lion wanted for murder and grand theft auto. More fantastic drawings, just wish it were longer.

The third in the series, this noir story continues to follow detective Blacksad. Like all the series, the artwork is fantastic. Highly recommend graphic novel fans to check out this series, which is in my top 5.

Same as my review for Blacksad; more gorgeous illustrations bringing the stories of private detective cat John Blacksad to life. Don't expect cuddly kids' stories though, these are whip sharp, intelligent and gloriously dark.
