Only one woman with a magical parasite can unite the galaxy, in the mind-blowing SF sequel to Space Unicorn Blues The Bala, magical creatures, have hidden themselves from cruel and destructive humanity, leaving the galaxy in shambles. Without unicorn-powered faster-than-light travel, mankind is scattered, starving and isolated across the stars. Cowboy Jim has the sole surviving FTL drive, and he and his Reason soldiers are determined to track down and re-enslave the Bala. But on their new planet, the Bala are on the brink of civil war: should they accept Unicorn rule, or follow necromancer Bao Zhi and exact revenge on their human oppressors? Only Captain Jenny, with her new elfin parasite, can return peace to the galaxy. File Under: Science Fiction [ Elves on the Brain | Lust for Magic | Best Served Hot | FTL Hell ]

Bk6 of #ProgressItNovember & Bk4 and final one for #FeastMode #readathon is done! 60hrs of reading in 4 days is not bad I reckon. Bk2 in the Space Unicorns series, it‘s a strange blend of magic & SciFi with space faring unicorns, pixies, dryads & angels etc all lumped under the class of Bala being held in enslavement to power the humans reach across the galaxy. Naturally, they‘re a little pissed. Cue general mayhem & chaos. Highly recommend🦄🪐

I think I enjoyed this one even more than the first installment. I still love the way that this book has an inclusivity factor rarely seen and yet those representations are never gimmicky. I look forward to seeing where this series will go.

🦄 🦄🦄🦄 I'm not gonna lie. I love this series. This is the second book in the series and it is WILD. It can be tricky if the author has an idea that's out there as sometimes it doesn't work in the execution. But it works here. This is a quirky, yet cohesive story that is ridiculously entertaining.

#BookMail Pt2 The second book in my #haul is the second book in the Bala series. The first, Space Unicorn Blues, was all about the enslavement of magical creatures through the galaxy to empower spaceships & hyperdrives. In this, the Bala are now free & living on a secret world, finally living on their own terms, but there are humans not happy with the chaos left behind & are looking to enslave them all again. If they can find them. Unique SciFi🦄

Is anyone surprised Squidapus finished this over a plane flight? Following the fallout of the first book Jenny and Gary find that separating the humans and Bala isn't working out great. The amazing characters and ridiculous/creative situations are still a blast to read about; Jenny and Gary are still fantastic. At times the book ignores certain events/characters to tell a story setting up a sequel but the ending is completely worth a few stumbles.

Reggie I loved the A.I. Ships so much!!! 6y
Squidapus @Reggie Oh man, they were really great new characters 6y

If you are looking for a hilarious space opera that has characters that stay with you then I would recommend this story. I loved Jenny in this story & her commitment to her wife was endearing. Even though she‘s crippled she manages to be one of the toughest characters & I admired her grit. Gary‘s not the same half-unicorn he used to be & the situations he had to deal with were quite difficult but he still manages to keep things moving along.

This is the 2nd book in the Space Unicorn Blues series. Another amazing space romp after the Pymmie have decided to move all the mythical creatures named the Bala to another faraway planet, having saved them from the slavery and persecution of the humankind. However the humans want their property back and aren‘t far behind. I‘m always amazed at authors who make me laugh one page and twist my insides the next. Can‘t wait for the 3rd book. Pick!

SW-T Nice review! Will have to look into this series. 6y
Squidapus Oh holy crap, Squidapus didn't know there was a sequel! This made his day! 6y
Reggie @SW-T it‘s so good. 6y
Reggie @Squidapus this was very much that second book that bridges to a third but no less great. 6y

StageCoach Mary and Well Actually are two different ship AI discussing how much Mary likes her human captain enough to actually try to help her. I love this book so much already. Mary is so sassy. She cusses at her captain. It‘s so funny.

Centique I kind of have a thing for Ship AI now thanks to Becky Chambers and Martha Wells. 💕😝 6y
Reggie I‘m gonna have to check those out because I kept trying to tell myself they‘re just ships, but I wanted them to be ok. Lol. @Centique 6y
Centique @Reggie maybe like me, you‘re one of the few people looking forward to a future full of snarky AI 😋 6y
