I do enjoy Georgie and Darcy.
Got an exciting package today which included a beautiful new handmade mug and this amazing candle. Their cozy spookiness has inspired me to finally start reading the 13th installment in The Royal Spyness series!

I really like this series! While I appreciated the change of scenery, the plot was average. But I‘m looking forward to the next book 🙂
As a Vegetarian I had hard time w/ discussions of hunting & descriptions of animal skins. Glad neither Georgie or Darcy participated in killing of animals. I'm not saying it should have been left out. It is historically accurate. As is depiction of British Aristocracy. It's the ugly side of the British empire. It just made it less of the happy read I come to expect from this series. 🕵️♀️ #royalspyness
Set in 1930s Kenya, the mysterious death of a English expat coincides with the honeymoon trip of the MC. I applaud the idea and the setting but I didn't find the story as compelling. Although a few famous faces showed up, it missed some of the quirky regular characters that make this series great. All great elements for what should've been a great story but it just felt a little flat to me.
This was just okay, not one of my favorites. The mystery aspect seemed to drag a bit, and there was not much humor. Newly married Georgie seemed more naive if possible. Still, the beautiful setting of Kenya makes up for it a bit. 3⭐️
It was a treat to listen to Rhys Bowen discuss her newest book and upcoming projects. Can‘t wait to start this one.
Enjoyed this. The mystery is less in the foreground than usual - because there‘s plenty of Darcy and Georgie going on. And I thought Bowen did a good job of giving an idea of the Happy Valley set and their antics without altering the tone of the series.
Current historical crime read - and it‘s reminding me how fascinating (in a oh my goodness can‘t look away sort of way) the Happy Valley are are. I‘ve read a fair few books about this lot, but I want more - so give me your recommendations!
This was a light, entertaining, easy read, which is what I expect from this series. The mystery got started far too late in the book, and sometimes it feels like the main characters don't learn or change much, which gets a little old. I missed some of the usual fun side characters, but this had an interesting setting.
Surely I haven‘t read 13 of these?!? But I‘ve read every one, so indeed I have. I gobbled it up like a hot hors d‘oevre but could not help feeling that it didn‘t quite meet my expectations. Bowen placing Georgiana and Darcy among the Happy Valley set should have been much more intriguing somehow. She‘s trying to do too much in too few pages and I missed Queenie. Wotcher, miss! #mystery #series #anglophilesoflitsy
