This book gives a great representation of a dealing with a disorder in the classroom. Specifically ADHD and the challenges someone with this would face.

Originally Published in 1998, Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key won the National book Award. This is a fiction chapter book that follows a young boy who has behavioral problems within the classroom. He often swallows a key that is attached to a string, but on one instance forgets to attach the string. This is a great story to read to children to help open their eyes to the idea of medication and how some students learn best when on medications.

This book is about struggling with a intellectual disorder and how that can impact a student inside the classroom. It illustrated the importance of a LRE for all students. He is very impulsive and working on helping yourself and keeping others safe. A good perspective of adhd.

Contemporary realistic fiction. Published 1998. This is a great read especially for students struggling with ADHD and impulse controls, but also for us as student teachers to help us understand what is going on in the minds of struggling children. It gives readers a new perspective.

My original review never posted - it was a quick read; however it gave AMAZING insight to a kiddo who struggles with ADHD and other issues at home and school. It was heartwarming; it made me laugh, made me feel sad, and it made me look at the way that I interact with others. A great book for anyone - especially for kiddos exposed to anyone in their lives who may have been diagnosed ADHD... or are simply struggling and need help and understanding.
