3✨As with many second books in the series I wasn‘t a super fan. It follows two new characters with Yarvi being a side character. At first I didn‘t like Thorn. She grew on me, but her tough personality and rough around the edges was just personally too much. I‘m all for a strong female lead, but she was over the top. There were pretty epic battles here, but I just wanted the original characters. #SeriesLove

TheSpineView I get that sentiment. 👍📖 7mo

Half the World is the second book in the Shattered Sea trilogy, and it definitely feels like it. The story builds off the first book, but leaves certain stories open for the third book. I enjoyed reading this book! Yarvi is less annoying in this book, and there‘s a new main character, Thorn.

Abercrombie was able to pull off a change of MC from book 1 so flawlessly, but Yarvi is still in it & he is more cunning then ever! I loved how gnarly, nasty, & gritty Thorn was described which is a big thing for Ya books w/ female leads who are always described as flawless beautiful creatures. Thorn was just as, if not more gross then the men. While Brand was our sweet adorable heartthrob. The plot was quick & engaging the whole time.

This is insanely out of my comfort zone, but somehow I love this series. It feels more like a Viking saga than a fantasy novel, and I think that's what makes it work for me.

robinb @ferskner it sounds good! I've added it to my list. Thanks! 8y
ferskner @robinb The first book is 8y
robinb @ferskner great! I just checked....love those three-book series! 8y

The second book in the Shattered Sea might be EVEN better than the first! This round it's badass Thorn and heroic Brand. Superb writing, this is classic Abercrombie plot twists, grit and humor. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

TrishB I've had these on the tbr a while and not been tempted! May have a re-think! 8y

Better than the first in the trilogy, but still not the best book. Definitely more than half a story this time around though.

Day 6&7: something borrowed and it's a Joe Abercrombie novel, so it's bound to be full of adventure!! The first of the series certainly was. #booktober @RealLifeReading

A great follow up to the first book. Some of the writing could've been better and less emphasis on the development of an obviously strained relationship, plus a thesaurus would help. It is a great book and great story, really builds for the final installment. Had a few turns that you'll see coming.

...the future is a land wrapped in fog. Events do not always flow down the channel you dig for them.

The best way I have heard life and fate and the future summed up.

CaitlinSiem I loved that line. 9y

The problem with reading in bed is you get into a good book and get to a point where you have to choose between sleep for work or reading til midnight. Still not sure how this turns out tonight.

Brand's character in contrast to Thorn's is considered dull. But I find it attractive. There is something about him that is not being served completely, hidden from the begging. And I think it is his choice of concious To do good which is needed by all in the end. Great work!

CaitlinSiem Brand is such a good balance to Thorn. He's stable and subtle where she's erratic and I love them both and how they balance each other out. 😃 9y
Lya What I like more is that the girl is more of a hero than the boy is but he has what she desperately need- an anchor of sorts ⚓️ 9y

There's always something exceedingly magical about a sequel that stands on its own beside a wonderful Book 1. Half the World does just that. The characters were spectacular as was the storyline. Thorn is one empowering woman amongst many other traits. Beautifully written, it's a book to enjoy.
