How to Bake Everything: Simple Recipes for the Best Baking
How to Bake Everything: Simple Recipes for the Best Baking | Mark Bittman
11 posts | 4 read | 22 to read
In the most comprehensive book of its kind, Mark Bittman offers the ultimate baker s resource. Finally, here is the simplest way to bake everything, from American favorites (Crunchy Toffee Cookies, Baked Alaska) to of-the-moment updates (Gingerbread Whoopie Pies). It explores global baking, too: Nordic ruis, New Orleans beignets, Afghan snowshoe naan. The recipes satisfy every flavor craving thanks to more than 2,000 recipes and variations: a pound cake can incorporate polenta, yogurt, ricotta, citrus, hazelnuts, ginger, and more. New bakers will appreciate Bittman s opinionated advice on essential equipment and ingredient substitutions, plus extensive technique illustrations. The pros will find their creativity unleashed with guidance on how to adapt recipes to become vegan, incorporate new grains, improvise tarts, or create customized icebox cakes using a mix-and-match chart. Demystified, deconstructed, and debunked baking is simpler and more flexible than you ever imagined."

#BOOKHAUL for today!
I'm camping and it's been raining for 3 straight days and the site is flooded. Thought it would be a good time to check out the HUGE used bookstore in a local village. Had about three times this many books picked out but needed to narrow it down - these were the ultimate winners.

Mitch Thank goodness for the rain! Well done you! 3y
CuriousG @Mitch The rain can bring good things! Lol 3y

Making my way through another Bittman cookbook and tonight I made sweet potato biscuits. We're gonna pretend I was paying attention and they didn't get too brown on top.

#TBRtemptation post! Another #LitsyDoesCooking suggestion for all you Litsyans who are looking for a #cookbook injection sensation! I'm definitely getting this book as soon as I have the 🤑! This tome is absolutely fantastic! How many bakers are in the house 😎👌🏻? #blameLitsy #blameMrBook

Shemac77 Love to cook/bake! 8y
I-read-and-eat I am just getting into baking, not very good at it atm 😂 cooking is more my forte 8y
Lynnsoprano I love his books. Not just his recipes, but his approach to food in general. And yes, I love to cook and bake. The family has requested my bourbon chocolate pecan pie for Thanksgiving. 8y

Laura317 Baking is more my thing. Cooking seems harder. I have no idea why. 8y
Audrey I cook and bake a lot. I have a ton of well used cookbooks. That said, I wouldn't recommend Bittman's cookbooks as I find the recipes to be bland and not well tested. Also, Bittman isn't a baker so I wouldn't trust the accuracy in this cookbook. Dorie Greenspan and Alice medrich have well tested, accurate and delicious baking books. 8y
JSW I'm a wizard with a bread machine. 8y
DeborahSmall I love cooking, baking not so much as you really have to stick to a recipe 8y
readinginthedark I love baking so much!!! 🍩🍪🍰 8y
brilliantglow I bake and cook all the time. I even make homemade bread - no bread machine- once a week. 8y

Lindy Love to cook, love to bake. Love Bittman too! 8y
DreesReads I love to cook and bake! I generally just use a few well-loved cookbooks--and magazine recipes! 8y

MrBook @brilliantglow Oooh, sounds great 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻!!! @TheCanuckReader *waves back* 😎👍🏻! @Lindy You're so lovable 😉👍🏻! @AudreyMorris Hey, if it works, why not stick with it 😎👌🏻! 8y
AmyG Mark's the best! 8y
Procrastireader I bake at Christmas--even dog biscuits. We render our Halloween pumpkins for pies, nut bread & the dog biscuits. So far I've got 27 folks on my list this year. Favorite baking books: Big Fat Cookies, Pig Out, Joy of Cooking (raspberry choc. Brownies to die for), whoopie Pies and a bunch of handwritten stuff from who knows. Also--Best New Tip: Make drop cookie dough in advance & freeze individual cookies, then bake as needed) 8y
MrBook @AmyG 😁👏🏻! @Procrastireader Mmmmmmm 😋👏🏻!!! 8y
BookBabe Oooh! 😮 8y
tpixie I've got the previous edition. Great encyclopedia 8y

I love Mark Bittman's books. The "simple recipes" in the subtitle proved true for this banana bread. Perfect reading snack with a cuppa, came together in less than 10 minutes and is getting rave reviews from the peeps. #booksandsnacks

Faibka Mmm Looks delicious! I love banana bread 😍 8y
I-read-and-eat Looks goooood! Now I feel like making banana bread 😀 8y
MrBook MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!! Between banana-walnut bread and date-nut bread, my faaaaavorites! 😆😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 8y

Eyelit First time I ever made banana bread (so so long ago) it was from Bittman's cookbook. Yum! I'm so glad he also did a vegetarian how to cook everything- I snapped that up as soon as it came out! 8y

I needed another cookbook like another hole in the head😉 #darnyoucostco

LeahBergen It happens to me ALL THE TIME. 😬 8y
Mamashep Costco always sucks me into the book vortex! 8y
Zelma I have How to Cook Everything and really like it. How is this one? 8y
slhbooks @Zelma I think it looks good🍪🍰🍞Like his other books, Bittman presents a good basic recipe with clear steps and helpful tips, then provides several variations of the original recipe. I am a good baker but not a creative baker, so I like to see all the different things you can do to a recipe to change it up. 8y
slhbooks Previous visit to Costco led to the purchase of 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' and 'The Underground Railroad'. I get weak in the knees😉📚📚📚 @LeahBergen @Mamashep 8y
