“Little devils wrestled with little angels in the innermost chambers of my conscience. The devils cheated, of course, although where my conscience was concerned they were also more #familiar with the terrain.” #QuotsyAug21
“All things considered, I‘ve learned more from talking to painters than talking to writers....since [painters] labor not in vineyards of verbiage but upon ice floes of visual images, they tend to function with fewer inhibitions than the wordsmiths when it comes to vocally exploring and expressing ideas. Since no one judges their speech, comparing it to their written work, they don‘t feel so acutely the weight of language.” #painting #QuotsyJul21
“Personally, I‘ve found maturity an overrated quality except in wine, for both #creative artists and lively people in general have much to gain from facing the world with the unsullied vision, flexible responses, and playful sensibilities of a child.” #QuotsyApr21
“There was a time when I smoked big Havana cigars while writing, not for the nicotine (I didn‘t inhale) but as an #anchor, something to hold on to, I told myself, to keep from falling over the edge of the earth. Eventually, I began to wonder what it would be like to take that fall. So one day I threw out the cigars and just let go. Falling, I must say, has been exhilarating -- though I may change my mind when I hit bottom.” #QuotsyMar21
“It's a privilege to love someone, to truly love them; and while it's paradisaical if she or he loves you back, it's unfair to #demand or expect reciprocity. We should consider ourselves lucky, honored, blessed that we possess the capacity to feel tenderness of such magnitude and be grateful even when that love is not returned. Love is the only game in which we win even when we lose.” #QuotsyMar20
“If you take any activity, any art, any discipline, any skill, take it and #push it as far as it will go, push it beyond where it has ever been before, push it to the wildest edge of edges, then you force it into the realm of magic.” ― Tom Robbins #QuotsyNov19 (not sure if quote is from the tagged book)
From the beginning, imagination has been my wild card, my skeleton key, my servant, my master, my bat cave, my home entertainment center, my flotation device, my syrup of wahoo; and I plan to #stick with it to the end, whenever and however that end might come, and whether or not there is another act to follow.” #QuotsySept19
As long as words and ideas exist, there will be a few misfits who will cavort with them in a spirit of *approfondement*–if I may borrow that marvelous French word that translates roughly as ‘playing easily in the deep‘–and in so doing they will occasionally bring to realization Kafka‘s belief that ‘a novel should be an ax for the frozen seas around us‘.” #Frozen #QuotsyNov18 Note: I'm not sure if this quote is from the tagged book.
“Be careful what goes into your mouth and what comes out of it.”
This sort-of memoir was somehow my first Tom Robbins. While none of the stories particularly blew me away, I loved his writing style and humor. He seems like my kind of people. Excited to read one of his novels soon!
"Not one word of my oeuvre, not one, has been written while in an artificially altered state. Unlike many authors, I don‘t even drink coffee when I write. No coffee, no cola, no cigarettes. There was a time when I smoked big Havana cigars while writing, not for the nicotine (I didn‘t inhale) but as an anchor, something to hold on to, I told myself, to keep from falling over the edge of the earth. Eventually, I began to wonder (cont. in comments)
TBR-wise, as far as I‘ve gotten is what I‘m currently reading.
PS. I‘ve decided to read the new #Backman after all @Jess7 but at 1/3 or so in, the jury‘s still out.

@TK421 posted this quote recently, but it bears repeating! 🙌🏻 #booksarecool
“...when it comes to coolness, nothing the human race has ever invented is more cool than a book.” #Cool #QuotsyJune18
Definitely a pick. The autobiography of Tom Robbins is definitely a must read. He‘s had a very interesting life and discusses it in detail. His journey throughout his 80+ years is fascinating.
* #TibetanPeachPie by Tom Robbins.
* My Mom, who wrote a ‘permission note‘ for me in the 5th grade stating that I could take out any book in the library, even from the adult section. It was an absolute scandal that I wanted to read VC Andrews.
* Night. * Larry Darrel, The Razor‘s Edge by W. Somerset Maugham; Some are Sicker Than Others by Andrew Seaward; Catcher in the Rye. #manicmonday @JoScho @AllenTStClair
I‘m finally finishing up Tibetan Peach Pie. I look down and see my dogs sleeping like this. 😭
It‘s been a happy and busy two days, so I‘m ending today by being happy and a little lazy.
My dad introduced me to Tom Robbins by lending me his copy of Another Roadside Attraction when I was 20. I just love his work. It‘s so much fun.
“I‘ve long tended to regard the #interruption of complacency as a kind of public service.” #QuotsyDec17
My latest #audiobook. I read most of Robbins‘ books a while ago and thoroughly enjoyed them, but this left me with a whole new appreciation for them and the author. Wow, he‘s certainly had some adventure! I‘m feeling like I‘m going to have to do some re-reading of those old friends. ❤️

You know it's getting good when you achieve the elusive "double-dog-ear" ?
...there are legions of us stray cats for whom libraries, bookshops, and movie theatres have served as temples, cathedrals, or sacred groves...
I feel like now I have to run out & buy 2 small animals to name "Tex Halo" & "Skyrocket McNocket"
I'm greatly pleased by the colour palate of my #marchtbr stack.

Funny tales of childhood shenanigans. Perfect for a lazy afternoon in the hammock.
