Amy Goodnight knows that the world isn't as simple as it seems. She also understands that "normal" doesn't mix with magic, and she's worked hard to build a wall between the two worlds. Not only to protect her family, who are all practicing witches, but to protect any hope of ever having a normal life herself. Ranch-sitting for her aunt in Texas should be exactly that: good old ordinary, uneventful hard work. Only, Amy and her sister, Phin, aren't alone. There's someone else in the house with them--and it's not the living, breathing, amazingly hot cowboy from the ranch next door. It's a ghost, and it's more powerful than the Goodnights and all their protective spells combined. It wants something from Amy, and none of her carefully built defenses can hold it back. This is the summer when the wall between Amy's worlds is going to come crashing down. A Kirkus Reviews Best Book of the Year An ALA-YALSA Best Book for Young Adults Praise for Texas Gothic: [Star] "You can't get much more Nancy Drew. . . . This engaging mystery has plenty of both paranormal and romance, spiced with loving families and satisfyingly packed with self-sufficient, competent girls."--Kirkus Reviews, Starred [Star] "Teens looking for a rollicking adventure filled with paranormal events, dastardly evildoers, and laugh-out-loud moments as Amy and Ben argue and snipe their way to love will adore this book."--School Library Journal, Starred "The author mixes suspense, humor, and lots of local flavor. . . . The enjoyable sum is a lively teen ghost story with sex appeal."--The Horn Book "A deeply affectionate rendering of Texas landscapes and legends combines with an appealing cast of well-developed characters to give texture to this well-plotted mystery; truly scary moments are balanced by the humorous bumbles of the awkwardly developing romance between Amy and Ben, as well as Phin's sublime cluelessness about the way her eccentricities appear to other people."--The Bulletin From the Hardcover edition.

**This is my 100th book of the year!**

I loved the fast pace, I flew through the chapters and absolutely loved the narrative of the MC Amy (What an awesome name?!😂) She was so sarcastic, down to Earth and independent, I love the relationship she has with her science obsessed sister Phin. The world building was great and I enjoyed the setting of a farm in Texas. The romance was super cute, I loved how Amy and Ben argued all the time

abookdragonsretreat but also had nice moments. And Ben was so dreamy! The plot was good and I loved the paranormal elements and the mystery. I also really enjoyed the witchy aspects, they weren't your typical magic, and I really enjoyed reading about the history and the archaeology parts. The book had some really funny parts too which where hiehstly hilarious! 3y
abookdragonsretreat I enjoyed the ending and how it wasn't what everyone thought, the plot twist was half unpredictable and I liked how things wrapped up, this was such a good standalone book and I really enjoyed it! 3y

Really into this book. I looked up other "gothic" books and my TBR got a lot longer.

I was not expecting to like this so much! YA paranormal in a real world setting with perfectly proportioned teen romance, real supernatural, and a Nancy Drew/Scooby Doo-esque mystery

Paranormal YA where Amy and her sister are housesitting at their Aunt's ranch. Some bones have been discovered at the neighboring ranch and Amy, the only 'untalented' one in a family of psychics and kitchen witches, has been visited twice by a terrifying specter so she and Phin are pitching in at the dig. A bit over halfway, it's good. A lot of digging right now.

LMJenkins Sounds intriguing! I like witches and I like archaeology. ✔️ 7y

"The goat was in the tree again."

#firstlines I'm 125 pages in and it's a paranormal YA story so I thought this was a spooky thing when I read the sample but apparently goats do this ?. Very engaging so far, I'm a fan I'd the 1st person narrator, Amy, the practical one in a family if mystics who is housesitting at her aunt's ranch along with her dreamy sister Phin.

Read a few pages here and there throughout the day, really was drawn right in. I think I put this on my reading list originally because I liked the title but I have a good feeling about it already. Currently bumping off a few more stories in the King collection I've been reading and switching over when I hit a lull.

8leagueboot One of the blurbs for this says "You can't get much more Nancy Drew", so I'm hooked ? 7y
parasolofdoom @8leagueboot I've only managed to get in a chapter throughout the day but I loved the narrative voice right away! I have a feeling this one will day 7y

Well, this was fun! Amy is the reasonable one in the witchy Goodnight clan until a ghost requires her assistance. But even with witchiness in the family this is much more mystery than fantasy. Part Nancy Drew, part Scooby-doo, the teens unravel criminal goings-on amidst the ghostly happenings in modern Texas. Amy is sassy, her sister Phin a scary genius, and the goats & dogs are 😹
Plus, there is that handsome cowboy next door 😉

River reading. I don't really like YA lit as much as it may seem. I am a high school English teacher and I'm always looking for books to add to my class library. This one is pretty good if you like witchy stuff. #YA. #
