Three day trip, this book should keep me company until tomorrow evening (Day 2) almost halfway through. We‘re all tucked and cozy in the bus. Sweet dreams 🌙✨
Beautifully written middle grade fable. Very atmospheric and moving.
Finished reading this with my kids tonight. When I asked my nine year old daughter if she liked it she said, "it made me feel really sad a lot of times". And I said "yeah, but did you like it?" And she said, "I loved it."
This is a beautifully written story that is so unique in its telling. I absolutely LOVED it and reading it aloud to my kids was even better. ?????
1. The Underneath by Kathi Appelt is the story of an abandoned cat and who goes to live with a maltreated hound dog underneath a crooked old house in a bayou on the border between Louisiana and Texas.
2. Hot Tamales
3. Gen-X I'm 43
4. Little Caesars pizza (Picked up one for supper tonight)
5. Books and coffee. Church on Sunday.

What may seem like a simple children's book is so much more. Appelt's prose is elegant and poetic.
My first #recommendsday title. This book is lyrical and beautiful; it has some harsh parts but they are worth it. Appelt uses a folklore feel to enrich the story. This book was marketed to children, but feels deeper than most children's books to me.
