This book was definitely entertaining to read. For the most part, the stories weren‘t terribly scary. A better title might have been: One Scary Story With Four Other Slightly Disturbing Tales and a Satirical Political Statement. But that‘s an awfully long title and it would have really ruined the lovely cover art.

My illogical mind: It‘s been a rough day. I think I‘ll sit back and read a story from this book. That should make me feel better.

Good Day, lovely Littens! I am working on a blog post and reading challenge for October called 31 Days of Halloween Reading. To help me build my list of 31 of the scariest, most blood-curdling stories ever, I am asking my friends to share their favorite scary story. What's the one book that gave you nightmares, made you sleep with the lights on and closet doors closed, that gave your goosebumps goosebumps? #31DaysofHalloweenReading

Kalalalatja Click-Clack the Rattlebag by Neil Gaiman made the hairs on my neck stand up! I found it in this collection of short stories 7y
TheWordJar I slept with the lights on for a few nights after finishing The Shining! 😱 7y
CocoReads Salems Lot by the King. Also The Shining and several of his short stories (names that escape me at the moment). 7y

jpmcwisemorgan King's The Mist still freaks me out every time it's slightly foggy out. I read that story over 20 years ago and it won't leave me alone! 7y

CocoReads @Yellowpigeon I understand that. My phone is clogged with screenshots because I think "I must go back and look at so and sos post for more ideas later" 7y
Jinjer I must be weird because I have never found a book that scares me or gives me nightmares or anything. Sucks. I want to be terrified.😂Guess I saw Halloween and Friday the 13th 500 too many times. I'm desensitized. 7y
Jinjer @CocoReads @Yellowpigeon ditto on the screenshots. 7y
PatriciaU i'll be posting the #31DaysofHalloweenReading list on my blog probably sometime next week, if that will help you all keep track of scary stories. I'll post a link here - itsallaboutthebook.org - when it's live. You guys, SO MANY shivery suggestions! Thanks! 7y

This is a collection of six scary stories (if you couldn't gather that from the title). They were chosen by Stephen King as the finalist in a competition ran by his publisher before the release of The Bazaar of Bad Dreams (which is still have not read). I really liked 3 of the stories and I thought the other 3 were just okay. It's a slim volume (126 pages) and it's definitely worth picking up if you come across it.
