Both a memoir and sort of how-to story of how a grassroots movement to enact gun safety legislation has made an impact at the local, state, and federal level. Quick read with great personal stories, words of wisdom about running a sprawling volunteer organization, and a lot of upbeat notes about accomplishments and how we can all contribute to seeing the change we crave.

Week 1 some days I met the goal. Mostly trying to recover from Washington, D.C. and plan an event for next weekend.

Inspiring and extremely, sadly relevant. Shannon Watts describes her passion and motivation for preventing gun violence, what led her to establish Moms Demand Action, and outlines a way forward in these dark times. Full of wisdom, humility, and conviction.

Today I marched with Students and Moms Demand Action in Washington DC to demand common sense gun laws. Tomorrow we call our senators and ask them to pass the Background Checks Expansion Act.

June was heavy on the nonfiction (9 of 13) for whatever reason. It wasn‘t planned, but I‘m not mad about it.

My only 5⭐️ was Fight Like a Mother because of what Shannon Watts and all the “Mothers and Others” have accomplished. The writing is decent, but the subject matter is close to my heart.

Pleasantly surprised to see my Moms Demand Action chapter lead, and newest friend, Kristi quoted in this book! Here, she is speaking about fighting a bill that would allow educators to carry concealed in Tennessee schools. This was 2018. It didn‘t pass. Moms showed up and made a difference. 🙌🏻 We fought it off again in 2019 🙌🏻, but it will no doubt show up again next year. #keepgoing

Gonna be a long morning of soccer camp. Good thing I‘m always prepared!

I decided to delete my bookstagram account and it‘s so liberating. 😆 It was taking too much of my time away from Litsy, my true love! Bookstagram is way too much of a popularity contest and I‘m not into that. Litsy is my happy place!! 🤗

#bookmail | I predict both will be tough reads. The Bourdain one is really a coffee table type book. The Shannon Watts book is an important read for me because I recently joined my local Moms Demand Action group. Looking forward to learning more about her story.

Parts of this book were a little dry, and parts I didn‘t think were super useful (l don‘t really need to know how to brand an advocacy group..while I know it was important in her process.. I don‘t know that it would be for most people) but there are some really useful suggestions for getting involved as well as some great information on the successes of the gun reform movement. Good statistics on gun violence and also gun myths dispelled.

Just saw an ad for this on FB and decided to check #NetGalley for it and I‘m preapproved! Shannon Watts is amazing and I can‘t wait to read this.
