The Girl From the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún Vol. 2
The Girl From the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún Vol. 2 | Nagabe
To be touched by an Outsider is to become an Outsider. A clawed, black hand reaches out to touch Shiva’s cheek in her sleep. The hand does not belong to Teacher. Who is this strange new Outsider, and what do its creepy murmurings about “mother” portend? Enter a fantasy realm shrouded in mystery, in a dark fairy tale-like setting for fans of The Ancient Magus’ Bride.

I am still in doubt if I really like this series, but so far I'm interested enough to continue.

3/5â Very little happens in this volume. The momentum is mostly stuck on repeating the same inner debates Teacher has. I'm still curious to see what happens next, though. #doublespin

I‘m really digging this strange little fairytale series; where wholesomeness meets darkness.

This is the first volume in the series that hasn't gotten a 5 star from me, and it's because it's the first with very little Shiva and Teacher interactions. I know this was necessary to progress the story. Of course, I now have even more questions with everything that happened in this volume, and that ending! I need volume 10 ASAP!

I absolutely love where this is going. We got more backstory on the Outsiders and Shive, which was really needed. Also we're learning a bit more about Teacher and what lengths he'll go to protect Shiva. Still dark, atmospheric, and wonderfully whimsical. I love this so much!

This story is picking up pace and each one ends with such a cliffhanger! That's how they get you with #manga huh?

First read of the year is a strange one. A series I hadn‘t heard of until browsing the library‘s ebook catalogue and the cover just stood out for me. Who is this strange creature and why is this little girl with it?
There is a fairy tale-likeness to this series. A young girl separated from her family and into the house of this beast with horns. But he is no vile monster. He looks after her, feeds her, and cares for her. She calls him Teacher.

RealLifeReading But she can not touch him for those who touch these beasts are cursed.

The curse itself isn‘t really explained much in the first two volumes but it is horrible enough that people have died, villages emptied, and armed soldiers sent to look for this possibly cursed young child in the woods

Completed Vol 2 of The Girl from the Other Side. I just can‘t get over the art in this #manga it‘s just so gorgeous. This is just a taste of what it looks like. Also the story is starting to get more interesting, how is the curse fixed, how did it start, why is Shiva so important?!?! So many questions and hopefully they get answered soon!!!

4 ?! I'm not sure if I want all the slice of life feels from the start to leave us (not that we don't have some now) or if I'm excited for the mystery coming with that ending. I'm a bit confused with this "Mother" business and how there's more than one type of Outsider. Still, I am enjoying the art and story so far ?? #manga #fantasy #nagabe

This an oddly striking book in its art and simplicity. Think along the lines of Magus Bride but more subtle and quiet.

I do wish there were more to it, but I enjoyed it enough to continue on.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Looks good, that picture is stark, but stunning. 6y

Volume 2 of the series continues to have a beautiful faerie tale atmosphere, though it provides more questions than answers. Shiva seems immune to the curse. And why did her aunt abandon her in the woods? What‘s the difference between Teacher and the other dark ones they meet?

I am loving this series, even if some of the panels could use a bit more negative space. (Nagabe! Stop using so much black!)

LOVE!!! This manga was so worth the wait for the library to purchase a copy. This is a charming story of a little girl and the monster who takes care of her. The art is beautiful and if you are someone who enjoys cute and quirky anime and manga, you‘ll want to make sure to pick up a copy.

While waiting to get my hands on the next volumes, I looked up the subtitle of this manga: Siuil A Run. It‘s an Irish folk song that‘s been recorded by many artists, and I‘ve just spent half an hour listening to a few of them, puzzling over the connection to the story. Longing; willing to do anything for one‘s love; soldiering; and even the image “Walk with Me†— I see those things.

A human child and her demonic guardian: an unlikely pair who cannot ever touch each other. The setting reminds me of plague-ridden Europe in the Middle Ages. This sweet and sinister fairy tale is 1st in a #manga series, #translated from Japanese. It ends on a cliff hanger and I want MORE!

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled My daughter told me about this! Sounds good! 7y
Lindy @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Yes, it unfolds slowly and it‘s very intriguing. 7y

Can a book be spooky and sweet at the same time? This story is basically about a strange demon-creature taking care of a little human girl. Normally I prefer colorful art in graphic novels, but the black and white art in this is lovely and really suits the tone of the story
