so-soBook 12 I have really liked Dilloway's novels. A juvenile read about a 12 year-old girl, sent to live with her aunt, a pie shop owner, while her dad is in jail. Cady learns to bake and accept her parents all while making friends and helping her aunt save her business. I am curious to try the strawberry basil pie recipe from the book, but, otherwise, it wasn't a satisfying read. Formulaic, predictable, disappointing. ⭐⭐

Very sweet story. I've been hitting the jackpot with middle-grade books lately and this one didn't disappoint. I enjoyed seeing the growth of Cady's character and her eventual acceptance of the things happening around her. There‘s a little of everything in this story — mental illness, homelessness and immigration status.
