Have only read excerpts and should read the whole thing. More relevant with time, I reckon, especially with corporate-owned social media and fake news.

batsy @CarolynM He is! And I need to watch it, seems to be available on YT 🙂 7y
RohitSawant Love this interpretation! 7y
batsy Thanks @rohit-sawant "the news" = 9th circle of hell ? 7y
saresmoore I‘ll say it‘s more relevant with time! Block chain could have saved us from all the madness... 😒 You know, way back when. Why don‘t we build failsafes when there‘s a new thing like the Internet? Have we learned nothing from dystopian fiction?! I guess I should read this book, too. 7y
batsy @saresmoore In total agreement, i.e. 😰😰😰 7y
emilyhaldi News doesn‘t really feel like news anymore, does it? 😏 7y
Suet624 Love Chomsky. I just don‘t know what to do anymore with what‘s happening in the world. Election Day can‘t come soon enough. And yet, there‘s soooo much more that needs doing. 7y
batsy @emilyhaldi It's like we're in the Truman Show except it's real?! 😅 7y
batsy @Suet624 Tell me about it, Sue. Elections are coming up in Malaysia and we have the choice of an opposition led by a former Prime Minister who set up the structure that is now being enjoyed by the current Prime Minister, and we're supposed to choose between the two!!! I don't even know anymore. 7y
Suet624 @batsy that‘s so dispiriting. I‘m so sorry. As for me, I guess I‘ll keep sending my tiny amounts of cash to worthy causes and try to hold out some hope that we haven‘t already been overthrown by the Russians. 7y
batsy @Suet624 I'm sorry for what you guys are up against, too. Here's my plan: We'll build a canoe and paddle out until we reach Moominland? 💙 7y
Suet624 @batsy Perfect. My son is in New Zealand and that sounds great too. (edited) 7y
Reviewsbylola This sounds heavy but important and certainly very relevant! 7y
Mdargusch Great choice! 7y
Cinfhen Noam Chomsky intimidates me 😳 (edited) 7y
batsy @Cinfhen Yeah, it's why I keep putting it off 😳 7y

"Dissent and inconvenient information are kept within bounds and at the margins, so that while their presence shows that the system is not monolithic, they are not large enough to interfere unduly with the domination of the official agenda." We're revisiting Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky's 1988 classic, Manufacturing Consent, in light of this week's NY Mag media criticism feature.

HardcoverHearts This is such an important book. 8y
