The Library of Ice: Readings from a Cold Climate
pickI adored this book but it was a neverending slog. If you love luminous nonfiction I recommend The Solace of Open Spaces, also by Gretel. Truth be told Solace was captivating and Ice was slow motion misery. Hugely poetic! I love poetry! This book, however, was poetry as wakeful nightmare, all damp skin and big eyes. I can only be truthful. You might race through this book. If so, I recommend gin.

In other news, I‘m nearly done with my #Bookspin. It‘s been a bit of a slog. It‘s a beautiful book, but it‘s a bite-sized book of vignettes, which makes it slow going. I love reading (and writing) poetry, and Ice is very poetic, but for various reasons reading it has been like walking in molasses.

The tagged book is my choice for #Booked2021 prompt 2 (science written by a woman). It‘s been in my library for years, and I even started it once, but got distracted by another book and didn‘t pick it up again until now. She‘s a wonderful writer though; I loved “The Solace of Open Spaces.”
