Outbreak
Outbreak | Davis Bunn

The waters off the West African coast are a menacing red, full of algae thick enough to stand on in places. In nearby villages, mysterious deaths start to occur--and the panic mounts. But before an alarm can be sounded, the sea currents shift, the algae vanishes, and the deaths stop. Everyone is relieved when things return to normal, and local government officials are happy to sweep the publicity nightmare under a rug. An American biological researcher, Avery Madison, is dispatched by his employer to piece together exactly what happened, having long feared an ecological disaster just like this could occur. He's had little evidence to go on before now, and what he finds in West Africa is rapidly disappearing. But Avery knows the danger hasn't disappeared--it has just moved on. When parts of the Caribbean start turning a familiar red right before hurricane season kicks into high gear, the implications are clear. If Avery and his colleagues can't convince the world of what's about to happen, toxic destruction could be loosed on American soil. Will their efforts prove too late?

Pickpick

You know those movies that are completely ridiculous, with bad science and stories that go off the rails, seeming to have nothing to do with the plot, but you‘re just plain entertained by them anyway? This is the book version of that. Do I recommend it? Not really. But it was fun!

If you like mediocre thrillers that completely ignore how outbreaks work, contain instant love, and move through a practically nonsensical plot at breakneck speeds, please let me recommend this book. #24b4Monday

Henrik_Madsen Sounds tempting, but I think I‘ll pass😎 (edited) 5y
Andrew65 Oh no! Hope you find something better. 😊 5y

Pickpick

So I read this for my cli-fi pick for #BOOKED2019. I did enjoy it. It kept me interested and turning pages. But for most of the first half I kept waiting for something to happen "cli-fi-y". So here's the deal. This is a suspense novel that had to do with an outbreak which just happens to be climate caused. It's a good suspense but if you're looking for a "Day after tomorrow" movie type experience this is an ? not an ?. ?

CindyRene @Cinfhen thank you 6y
RadicalReader I love ebooks so simple and portable so much easier to carry an ereader than the equivalent amount in physical books 6y

tournevis @CindyRene But only before 13:00h. After that, I won't sleep at night. Am I old? (yes) 6y
darklydreaming F6! I don‘t take milk - just sugar ☕️ 6y
CindyRene @tournevis nooo not old. We're just Well seasoned 😜 6y
CindyRene @darklydreaming I wish I could do that. I've tried to cut back on mine but it's just not the same 6y
CindyRene @SleepyDragon cool- E5 really does look just like your profile pick ‼️💯% yummy 😃 6y
Crazeedi D2 E1 F1 depends on the time of the day. I like a dark roast first thing in am and I can drink caffeine in the evening and go to bed. Decaffeinated coffee is a sacrilege! My favorite coffees are Ethiopian, Yemen mocha, Sumatra, Tanzania peaberry, India mysore, Kenya. To name a few😍 6y
Lynnsoprano @crazeedi Thanks for the tag. I‘m a decaf person for medical reasons. A little half and half, no sugar. D4 looks about right. (edited) 6y
CindyRene @Crazeedi you have some awesome coffee GAME girlfriend! I think I'm jealous! I won't be setting my cuppa-sad down next to yours in any future virtual book discussions that we may have the pleasure of doing together 😂😂. Instead maybe you can bring the coffee and I could provide the muffins 😁😁. 6y
julesG @tournevis I'm the same. Have coffee too late and I can't sleep, but I can't drink coffee in the morning either. I always have to have tea first. 😵 6y
gradcat @Crazeedi Thanks for the tag! This is very cute—I‘m an F6 all the way!! ☕️ ❤️👍 6y
tournevis @julesG Tea has caffeine too! It's all good! 6y
