It was not one of my favorites in the series, but it was interesting that the parents were on opposite sides of the civil war. Plus the lighthouse aspect was an interesting side note.

One of my sisters-in-law is a #lighthouse fan and lives across the street from the Fenwick Island light. It‘s now firmly situated in the land of t-shirt ships and mini golf, but it‘s still an iconic landmark. IIRC this book was a #Litsy find. I need to move it up my TBR! #letstravelaugust
“Life is not without pain. This I have learned”
Great story to teach about the civil war from a younger persons perspective. The book is set up/written as if it‘s an actual diary
1999, historical fiction. Story written as a diary fromthe perspective of Amelia Martin during the civil war. She is a hardworking girl who has to row and work ropes and carry barrels of oil. She scrubs and cleans floors and does all this work to try to keep her family together.
