E.T., the Book of the Green Planet
E.T., the Book of the Green Planet: A Novel | William Kotzwinkle, Steven Spielberg
3 posts | 1 read | 1 reading | 3 to read
Now at last we see where ET comes from - who he really is and what his own distant world is like. Return with him to the Green Planet, whose inhabitants are the supreme masters of all growing things in the galaxy. Wander through their immense enchanted gardens, to which ET has returned with Gertie's geranium, a fondness for junk food and an all-consuming love for the earthling Elliott and his family. But things on Earth have changed since ET left. Elliott has begun to notice the opposite sex, and his cherished memories of ET are losing ground to thoughts of one special girl in his class. More important, he seems to have forgotten ET's teachings of gentleness and peace. As ET observes from three million light years away: "He is about to become the most terrible thing of all. He is about to become -- Man." ET must return to Earth to help Elliott on his journey to manhood. But ET has been stripped of his powers, demoted from his distinguished job and suspected of having succumbed to earthly corruption. Can the gentle botanist outwit the forces of his own civilization? Can he harness the power of the Gren Planet's plant kingdom in a daring attempt to elude the elite guard of the Starcruiser Fleet and make his escape to Earth...?

@kalinichta posted this link to find out the most popular book on the year that you were born. https://www.bookstr.com/article/which-book-was-popular-the-year-you-were-born/34... . Mine is E.T.! I've watched the movie but didn't know there was a book! Definitely have to read this one. What's your birth year best seller? Have you read it?

TheBookAddict I didn't know about E.T. either, I'll have to look for it. I have not read my birthdate bestseller either. 8y
jfalkens @TheBookAddict That's what I got too ☺ 8y
Laura317 I got Ian Fleming's You Only Live Twice. Saw the movie. Doubt I'll read the book. 1964 was apparently into Bond. James Bond. 8y

Bookzombie I got Sophie's Choice. I'm not surprised. It's at the top of every list I've seen for 1979. I'm debating if I want to read it for my birthday challenge. 8y
